We have just spent a week here and booked it mostly down to Trip Adviser reviews. Really clean modern hotel 5 mins to beautiful beaches and a very reasonable beach bar just at the bottom of the steps, 3.50 euros taxi ride to the old town and if you want to go to the strip 5 mins walk. (there is a fabulous jewellery shop on the left hand side of the strip about 500m into the strip have a look my husband wished I hadn't) All the staff in the hotel were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble when I managed to lock myself out of the safe a receptionist came up to the room immediately. Also BIG THANKS for the complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolates for my husbands birthday a really nice touch. The breakfast choice was huge and yes it was busy but hey chill you are on holiday. Likewise the sunbeds outside were also busy but if you want them get up early or go to the beach. Go onto the roof on a sunny day the views are amazing great phtotgraphs. There were some lovely bars & restaurants just out of the hotel and across the road Netto in particular the staff couldn't do enought for you and even gave us a lift from the Old Town. Please try the Lemon Tree restaurant on the top of the old Town prior to going down the escalators it is to your left as if you were walking down to the beach it doesnt look much from the outside but the food was the most amazing Portugese food we had the smoked sardines and the beef goulash tapas size dishes were really good value with a fabulous view over the sea. A great holiday and we will be back.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view

Just back from 1 weeks stay in this fabulous hotel. Had a room on 2nd floor with amazing views. Rooftop terrace was fantastic too and very private. From the time we booked it our holiday was outstanding. The staff were very friendly and always courteous even the cleaners. The room was fabulous with a huge double bed and clean towels every day. Breakfast was outstanding, such a choice of very well presented food. All kinds of everything. The evening meal was just not as good as the breakfast for main course as we had steak or sword fish one evening and the steak was horrible, that is the only bad piece of food I could say I tasted there. The salads, soup and desserts were great,so would not take points from them for this one item. evening meal was €29.90 for 2 people and a bottle of house wine was €11 so not bad prices for food. The pool area was always busy so could do with some more sunbeds as all were taken around 7.30 and there was only about 60 beds which was not sufficient for amount of guests staying there. The lady doing the massagesand treatments on site was good to as my friend had reflexology done and said it was brillant. The beach was down some wooden steps but it was not difficult to come bak up as some previous review said. There were seats in different locations on way so you take a rest if you were tired or under pressure but really no bother. The beach was small there but nice and the beach kaffe was fantastic. Had sardines, tuna salad, kebabs, omelet, ice cream and milk shakes were amazing varieties of food tasted. The hotel was in a great position as it was only about 10 minute walk to strip but was so quiet at night then to come back to.Would have liked a bit of low key entertainment in bar at night but nothing on so very quiet, nice tho.Netto restaurant close by was also great for a midday snack and good prices too. Great mug of tea there! All in we would defenitly return to this hotel and would recommend it 100%.

Room Tip: Get a room on 2nd or 3rd floor with a double bed if a couple and with sea view.

Just back from a weeks stay, our first visit. Its a lovely modern hotel. Our room had a sea view, the bed was 2 very comfortable twins together which was ok as it made a rather large bed. Our room was cleaned daily some days it was already cleaned by the time we returned from our breakfast. Breakfast was the usual fare and was fine. However dinner was atrocious some dishes were inedible. Definitly not 4 star. One soup, salad starter, one meat, one fish and one vegetarian dish, same hot vegetable every day. Dessert was the same every day - although there was a lovely selection of fresh fruit. The chef barbequed out side a few times, on one occassion it was turkey kebabs which were burnt on the outside and raw inside definilty no concern about the high risk of food poisioning from under cooked meat. I wonder is the kitchen too small to cope with the number of guests or can the chef not cook.
I would not go back to this hotel because of the food which is a pity because if the food had been better I would have give it a 5.
Management take note please improve the food quality and at least provide a second meat dish.

Room Tip: Either a pool or sea view

After reading many reviews before we booked, we were not disappointed.
We wanted to eat out so booked the B&B packed which was good value travelling 1st week of June. The reception staff were friendly and efficient, and although we arrived too early to be allowed into our room, our cases were locked away. A short stroll down to the Beach Caffe for some fresh sardines and wine was just the ticket.
Good location, near beach, lots of restaurants locally, or the 5Euro ride into Old Town for hundreds more.
The pool loungers were booked by 8am as hotel was busy, but not our scene anyway.
The beach loungers were 12 Euros for two, but you can take your own towel. The best plan since it was too hot to sit all day.
We ate several lunches and a diner at the Beach Caffe, highly recommended.
Took a bus trip into Portimao, 8 Euro one way from the main station in town, but lots of shops shut due to the recession, so didn't stay long. Worth another bus trip to Villamoura if like lunching watching the yachts and people watching. Prices vary a lot so can spend little or a lot.
Highlight for us was a visit to Johnny Hoopers saxaphone bar and restaurant, which can be walked to from the hotel.

Room Tip: East facing rooms have a good sea view and little noise.

This was a return visit to this hotel, having stayed once before with a friend for a week last September, we’d really enjoyed the hotel, beach within walking distance & surrounding bars & eating places, so returned with my husband for 10 days mid-May.

We found it a great hotel as a base. We had a standard room on the third floor overlooking the hotel entrance, last year we had been upgraded to a room on the other side of the hotel overlooking the pine trees & side sea view, I felt I preferred the room we were allocated this time as there was a bigger balcony, with a sliding partition to keep the sun out of the room, more to see & caught the evening sun. I had emailed ahead requesting a double bed & was pleased this was granted, with the room having a really large double bed. As commented previously, the room was modern, simply furnished, clean & the air conditioning worked well - after we’d realised the patio doors opened both sides, the cleaner must have opened it slightly & we couldn't get the ac to work until we had fathomed that out, at least we didn't embarrass ourselves by calling reception!
We weren't disturbed by either other room noise or external noise when the patio doors were shut.
As I stayed before was aware that the only plug was too far away from the mirror to see drying & straightening my hair - so went armed with an extension lead to overcome this & used the fridge plug to remedy this.
We also used the fridge to store our own cold drinks & was pleased to find there wasn’t a charge for this.
I made a mistake thinking it would be cheaper to use the room phone to make a local call to book a table at the Dom Carlos restaurant, it wasn’t, & cost over 2 euros!! Next time I’ll use my mobile!

Breakfast at the hotel we found to be ample, with sufficient choice & I particularly enjoyed the peeled fresh fruit. There was a good selection of cooked breakfast however only cold plates to put it on, so soon learnt to make & butter toast first so as to reduce the amount of time for it to go cold. Also disappointing that, in a region of huge orange production, the orange juice was particularly poor & watery.
There was the choice of eating inside or out, we tended to opt for inside as often it was windy during our stay. We found breakfast time very busy between 9-10am often with queues for toast, drinks & occasionally finding a laid table. It surprised me that room numbers were not taken, the world & his wife could have walked in off the street to get breakfast & nobody would have been any the wiser!! We found either going for breakfast at 8am (only found this out on our last day as had a morning flight!) or 10am (usual for us!) was before or after the main breakfast rush.

We didn’t use the pool area at all & this reflects my comment as the hotel being great for a base. The hotel was busy whilst we were there & all sunbeds were taken by 10am, squashed together & for us, just didn’t look inviting, however obviously suited many as they were always full!

We had picked up a hire car at the airport & there were some lovely beaches locally within short driving distance which at this time of year were not at all crowded. As well as the beach within walking distance out of the back of the hotel, we spent some lovely days on Praia da Gale & Praia do São Rafael as well as exploring the local countryside villages & towns. We always found parking space outside the hotel, which was free of charge and managed to use the N125 & small roads so avoided using the A22 which is now a toll road, for the whole of our stay (having been made aware on TA).

There were plenty of eating places within close proximity of the hotel, including Netto’s, Laura’s Fish & Chips (after a day out & lunchtime meal, this was great), The Great Indian Tandoori (half way along the road into the old town) & my favorite for quality, value & choice, Invinctus, which we visited 3 times, as well as for a special treat, Dom Carlos, in the Old Town.
When in the Old Town we always ended up at Steps Bar, half way up the steps next to the tunnel through to the beach, great music, good company & when asked they called us a taxi, which came to the top of the steps & got us safely back to the hotel!

All in all, we had a great holiday & wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel & as a great base for local beaches, bars & eating places in Albufeira
