This is a lovely hotel, and although Evora has a lot of narrow one-way streets, this is easy to find.
On arrival, we were welcomed warmly and given lots of advice about local sights and eating places. The breakfasts are very good, indeed.
The only negative is that the lighting is very low key, and it is not comfortable to read (for very long) in the bedroom or, indeed, in the lounge/ bar area.

HOTEL ALBERGARIA DO CALVÁRIO is not to be missed! If you are in the Alentejo region, or Portugal for that matter, stay here! The owners and staff make this hotel. Greeting and welcome by Hugo oriented us with the area, made us feel at home and introduced us to the Vinho Verde and other Alentejo wines. Excellent suggestions to wine stores, restaurants and sights to see. Peter and his wife take care in making sure their guests are completely taken care of, evident in everything from the custom decor, 24 hr bar, to the indulgent breakfasts - all organic, with one of the best grain spreads ever, including bee pollen from local growers. Oh, they'll even whip up a quad espresso for us caffeine addicts. Only thing we would have changed was to stay longer!

Room tip: Room overlooking the inner courtyard, they'll upgrade you if available.

The ratings are true. I am sure they don't need another rave rating but here goes. Everyone at the hotel was very helpful. No request was too big or too small. They really take care of you. Be ready for a big breakfast. It was like none we had ever experienced. Everyone seems to speak at least a bit of English (most fluently) if you need help and they did help. The staff arranged a guided tour of the monoliths in the Evora area for us while we were there. This was the chocolate icing on the cake of our visit to the area. This is the BEST place to stay if you are in the area!!

Room tip: Ask for a suite if they have one. The extra space was great!

This place is terrific!! Wonderful service, great location, fabulous staff. And a great breakfast with homemade breads and cakes. By far the best place we stayed on our recent trip to Spain and Portugal.
The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. They arranged for bikes to be delivered to the hotel for us, gave lots of useful advice and tips, and they all spoke excellent english, which helps.
The hotel is located just a few feet inside the old medieval city wall, fairly easy to find and drive to. The rooms are pleasant and well appointed, nice common areas, the place is very clean, it has a parking garage underground, tight but useable. Evora is a good sized town inside the old city wall, very charming, lots of dining and shopping options, with a few sights as well. Roman ruins, cathedral etc. Only a hour or so from Lisbon airport. Overall, Evora and this hotel were the highlights of our trip

Room tip: we only saw two, they were fine, very comfortable

This small hotel was a great find for us in Evora. Everything was perfect about it. Location within the city walls, beautiful patio area, excellent breakfast, warm and inviting staff-
When we arrived, they greeted us and offered a cold drink! The room was large as was the bathroom and beds comfortable. Nina and Peter were great hosts for our visit. I recommend Albergaria do Calvario to anyone who wants to stay in a relaxed, beautiful and spacious hotel with people who really care about you and the time you are having while in Evora!
