“Winter Break”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

Stayed for three nights in mid February. The hotel is fairly central just a five minute walk from the main Square. Friendly welcome and we were able to get to our room before the 3 pm arrival time. Good size room on the ground floor over looking the garden. Very quite and a good nights sleep. Excellent breakfast which was included in the deal of £91 per night. Thomas Cook offered the best deal. Attractive hotel both inside and out, and very warm, during a very cold but sunny week. Staff were always there to help if needed, but not intrusive.
Enjoyed our stay very much and we would certainly recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms 6 and 7 ground floor, overlooking the garden are very quite.

Four of us travelled in February 2012 for a long weekend.
The hotel is well situated, a short walk from everywhere you are likely to want to go (so are just about all hotels as central 'old' Bruges isn't very big) - but it is a quiet area without much passing noise.
The hotel is warm, slightly shabby-chic, quiet and (to us) welcoming.
Our rooms & bathrooms were very large, overlooking the gardens. Breakfast was included & very comprehensive & good (although expensive if you have to buy).
My only quibbles are these: no kettle & tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
No free internet access. This I find unpardonable in a 4-Star hotel; It is after all 2012 even in Belgium & if a tea shop can offer free wi-fi to customers buying a cup of tea a hotel charging this much a night should not be looking to rip-off it's customers in this way. I would not go back to a Martin's Relais hotel on the basis of this alone & will write to tell them what I think of them.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlooking the garden (rather than the canal at the front) are very quiet.

Dear guest,

I’m pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel.

Our rooms are indeed not having tea or coffee making facilities however there is staff available in the hotel 24h /24h to bring up some fresh tea or coffee to the guest’s room.

Reservations made through our website (Martin’s Hotels) benefit so many extra advantages (FREE Wi-Fi, advantage price for breakfast…)

I do hope to welcome you and your fiends again in one of our hotels.
Kind regards
Sofie

Lovely hotel - elegant and relaxing! What a treat after a day of walking and sight-seeing! The breakfast was tasty and had a variety of hot and cold foods. The atmosphere was calm and the staff were professional and welcoming. Our room was clean, elegant, and full of character. One (small) addition I would have liked was to have a kettle with tea/sugar/etc. in the room as an evening treat. Just a suggestion! Otherwise, a wonderful stay -- we'll definitely come again!

This is an old merchant's house by the side of a beautiful canal, very close to all the main sights of Bruges. The house, including the bedroom, was full of antiques, and had a wonderful restful atmosphere. We were very well looked after without being fussed. The views from the hotel were spectacular. There were log fires, and in one of the coldest weeks of the year so far- snow and all the canals frozen - we were beautifully warm. The breakfast was astonishing - a great range of hot and cold dishes, plus a glass of champagne on our first morning. Very helpful waiter, and the breakfast room itself so attractive. And a most comfortable bar - with books and comfortable chairs - with service whenever it was needed.
It is a hotel I will be very glad indeed to return to.

As a European style hotel, it was a great stop for what we wanted - a decent room in a great location. Rooms are small however all the amenities you require are in your very small room. The rooms were clean and we were woken by the bells early in the morning.....which might sound irritating, but was actually quite cool. There is a computer for guest to use, a nice lobby and lounge as well as a full breakfast. Perfect for either the single traveller or a family. Take the time to look out your window (on the higher floors) and you will be treated to the amazing roof line of Bruges......a sight well worth waking up for.
