We stayed room 228, overlooking nice terrace..a quiet "comfort" double - we would not have wanted a smaller room as we stayed for 4 nights. Room was adequate for our needs. We stayed in the main hotel, not the annexe, which I cannot comment about, but we did see people coming into the breakfast cellar from outside so we think this would be a downside of the annexe on a cold morning.Hotel self service breakfast was plentiful and good, the very tasty pastries and breads were our favourites. The hotel staff at check in were very helpful. The staff member who served us in the attached Strijderhuis bar was grumpy and rude..we had one drink and left..there are plenty of delightful friendly bars in Bruges. I would stay here again for the location.

Yes the layout is eccentric, quirky I would call it, but dig deep in your pockets and stay in a comfort room, they are really lovely, don`t book the smallest room and then complain about it, because shockingly enough they are quite small! It`s a great hotel, breakfast is lovely, a large range of breads, pastries, cooked meats and cheeses, cereals too. Really good coffee and in the most gorgeous cellar. The staff are very polite and helpful and the location is umbeatable.
Love this hotel and this city holds my heart, going back again in June for visit number 6, can't wait!

Room Tip: As I said, Comfort rooms are excellent, small amount extra for a great room!

Beware room 210! Mold all over! The room is unbelievable small, actually, we realised it used to be a single room, they just put two beds together. Really smelly and very noisy.
The beds awfully soft, not kidding.
And...something strange happened. My husbands mobile charger disappeared, we luckily realised just after the room had been cleaned up, so the cleaning people were around. We asked about it, and they gave it back right away...I asked what happened, they said, they wanted to clean the socket...Ánd that was the first night out of 4...
It is very simple, do not go to this hotel, keep looking.
One good thing, breakfast, from 8 to 10.
Ah, pets are surely allowed, at least saw 2 dogs having breakfast with us...

I travelled to Bruges in January with my sister, her husband and their 8 month old. The hotel is located very centrally and easy to get to from the square, however it is a very higgle-de-piggledy layout.

Getting to our room involved stairs, a lift, a walk across a slippery outdoor area and then 2 flights of more narrow stairs. All lugging a stroller and other miscellaneous luggage and baby equipment. We only did it once with the stroller before coming to our senses and requesting with reception that we could leave it downstairs.

PROS:
Close to the square, lovely staff on reception, breakfast buffet, the bar downstairs and bike rentals.

CONS:
Lot and lots and lots of stairs, sockets with live wires coming out of them, electrical wiring being run in the guttering outside the window of the apartment, the phone falling off the wall in our apartment and more irritatingly the stale smell of cigarettes in the room.

To be honest, I would take other's advice and pay a little bit of extra and get something that doesn't feel like it needs some serious upgrading and general safety inspections.

Room Tip: Don't get an apartment - they are very, very high up with some quite unsafe stairs.

We parked our car in the "car park" (read burnt out garage nextdoor) we climbed the (urine smelling) stairs to our appartment after 5 minutes trying to open the heavy door and when we climbed the stairs to our annex appartment we were quite frankly horrified by what we found. heavily smelling of cigarettes, wires hanging out of sockets, sockets live, windows opening onto the street with no way of locking them so small children could easily fall out. Dont be fooled by the reports about this hotel on here. im sceptical about people leaving negative reviews on these sites but really please trust me if you have small children and dont book one of the annex rooms they DONT look like the pictures on the wesite! for 30 euros more you can have a clean freindly safe hotel just around the corner. The only saving grace about this hotel would be the proximity to the square. if you have a sleeping bag and no children then take this budget option but dont say we didnt warn you :-)

Room Tip: My tip avoid like the plague if you have little ones!!!!!!!!
