“Value for money, safe, sound... potentially great views.”
Reviewed 13 January 2012

We were first given room 209! It was small, smelled of humidity, had dirty walls, a cigarette burned carpet, etc. Wife was just about to walk.... I asked if anything else was open, and a very nice receptionist moved us to the top floor. We thought we had landed at the Ritz, by comparison. Enjoyed the great views, in a small but comfortable room. Two beds pushed together, no big deal. It was functional, clean and fine for a few days' stay. The best thing about the hotel may be the breakfast room. The food itself was perfectly adequate (value for money), but large and pleasant room, not without eccentric old world, circa 1970s charm.

We would go back, yes, but not without first checking 2** hotels closer to the square for the same price. But this was a last minute booking.

We were only in Bruges one night so were not after a fancy hotel. This one did the trick yet it was a little basic. The rooms need a good update as they are a little dated but given the location you have to give a little. If you are coming via train then yes the station is the other side of the city. If you are driving then you will need a permit from the hotel (€10 deposit) but there is a lot of parking. Reception is very helpful and recommend some good restaurants see De Vlaamsche Pot

Okay location (about 20 minute walk from the railway station), nice breakfasts, small but warm room. When booking the only room available was the budget one, with the bathroom separate, this was fine and the large, warm bathroom was just 2 doors away down the corridor. Our room has a sink and mirror, chest of drawers (though most filled with extra blankets! so we put them under the bed to give us enough space), no wardrobe or hanging area but fine for a few days.

Only problem was when we returned on our second day to find our key missing. Young man on reception couldn't find a spare key, couldn't get hold of owners to ask what he should do when the skeleton key didn't work. Eventually a replacement for room key was found, though it took a few hours to locate one for the bathroom. We weren't too bothered really as a replacement keys were found, but what was disappointing was that all the staff we dealt with (3 in all) assumed we had lost the key. It was suggested we'd taken it out and dropped it, or someone had stolen it, or we'd left it in the room - anything but someone at the hotel being responsible or even another guest taking it by accident. We guessed that the cleaners may have had it (as the skeleton key hadn't worked) and this turned out to be the case, though our room hadn't actually been cleaned that day (thought oddly the bathroom had). When checking out the next day, we noticed the key back on it's hook by reception, the lady on reception said 'where did you find it' assuming we'd put it back there! She then said the cleaners must have had it, when I said the room hadn't been cleaned she ignored that and went back to arranging our payment, with no apology or even acknowledgement that they had been wrong to suggest we'd lost the key.

It's not a big deal and I'd still say the hotel is fine to stay in, we were just a bit annoyed at the way all 3 staff suggested we'd lost the key, with absolutely no question that they were at fault.

Room Tip: The website says all rooms have tv but ours didn't - this may be because it's the budget roo...

We booked the Eurostar package weekend break to Bruges, Belgium. And we were happy till we arrived at the hotel.....
Firstly it’s a good 30min walk from the rail station(our choice to walk), then on arriving the receptionist asked were we aware that it was a budget room(alarm bells rang in my head) and that the bathroom was up the corridor (though private).
On entering the room it was very small indeed about a metre either side of the bed (2 singles pushed together).with a small hand basin in the corner. On checking the bathroom up the corridor it was nice/clean & similar size to our bedroom.
In the evening the wind was howling outside which kept us awake as it was single glazed window’s (god knows how'd you'd survive in the winter).... the next day I was picking up sock's from the end of the bed and noticed under it that there was some wood and a sml hand basin (left from builders I imagine), moving the hand basin from under the bed then made my girlfriends bed unstable and a nightmare to sleep on... It was breakfast included in the deal which was pleasant enough and the staff were very helpful in general, shame about the room….
WE won't be staying here again, though we found out that there are new owners and that they own/manage other hotels in Amsterdam....

We stayed for one night November 2011.

Set on a quiet cobbled street opposite stgilleskerk. Just a 10 minute walk from the very heart of Brugge yet in a peaceful location. Takes around 30 minutes to walk from the train/bus stations or hop into a taxi for around 10 euros.

Check in couldnt have been easier, despite us arriving an hour earlier than expected our room was ready. We were given a complementary map of the city and a quick idea of good things to see and do during our stay.

Our room on the 3rd floor was'nt huge, but it big enough for our short stay. Twin beds, TV, telephone, ensuite, insect nets on the windows, immaculately clean and great sky scape views - what more could we want? peace and quiet and we certainly got that.

Breakfast was continental buffet style and really good quality - no complaints for us.

Staff were very helpful throughout our stay in arranging taxi's etc and we had an enjoyable drink at the bar and learned a great deal about the local beers - many thanks to the barman who really knew his stuff!

We will definately be returning to the Jacobs Hotel on our next visit to Brugge - many thanks to the staff there for making our stay so enjoyable.
