This felt like the most authentic kind of Brussels cafe/bar experience. The interior of the place is steeped in character and history (see the pictures on the walls). Plenty of locals in here. We had drinks the first time (Peach beer is to die for - I'm a girl who doesn't even like beer!) and came back again for a lunch of tasty omelettes and open sandwiches etc. Very reasonable prices (good for Brussels!) and nice staff.

You step into a little piece of history when you enter this bar, décor is authentic, waiters and waitresses know their trade and clientele - so expect to banter! Order a beer or three you have never heard of and...., be rewarded with an experience only a bar like this can provide. It's timeless and all the better for it. Santé!

Four of us came for lunch. I've been here several times in the past but not for some years. The place was very busy indeed and the staff almost run off their feet. even so, service was efficient and friendly. We had a platter of cheese cubes (Gouda) with our first drinks, then two of us settled for cheese and ham sandwiches two for croque monsieurs. all were fresh, tasty and decent value. One of the party had beer which he pronounced very nice, the others had a pleasant house white. A good lunch in historic surroundings - all in all very enjoyable.

Only a few minutes walk from the central station is this wonderful place. Original atmosphere of a cafe, bar, offering a wide variety of beers. It is a drinking and talking place that has to be part of your Brussel itinerary.

The Mort Subite, is one of Brussels oldest bars. The Mort Subite Geuze is served at room temperature, and is something to be savoured.

Not much has changed at this 1928 bar including the signs inside. It is very crowded by fun. Mort Subite kriek is my favorite Kriek lambic style of Belgian beer, made by fermenting lambic with sour Morello cherries. Here it is served on tap. Expect lots of local color. You ask for cheese cubes and hard sausage slices to accompany your favorite beverage.

We love to go to this bar for its old fashioned ambience & Belgian feel. They serve light snacks ....omelettes, croques, bread, ham, cheese etc. I just wish the seating was more comfortable then we'd visit more often.

Being a Brussels institution, we stopped for a beer on a very warm July afternoon. The beers were cold and delicious. However, when it came time to pay the waitress was unable to process our credit card payment. She had no problem with cards from Europeans -- but insisted we, as well as one other American couple, pay cash. It was only after we told her we did not have cash that she "got her machine to work" to accept our card. Tourist tax? Who knows, but beware.

We loved this bar/restaurant. While we only drank there, the waitress was wonderful. She asked what type of beer we liked, and then explained their selections. Inside is a beautiful old decore. Reminiscent of a grand hotel. If you're in Brussels sampling beer, definitely check this place out.
