Stayed in this hotel as part of a university trip. As others have said, the place is quite dingy, unkempt and dated. Our room, which I shared with 3 others, had a view that faced inward to what can only be described as a concrete well.

Again, as some have said, I can imagine it was very nice and posh in its heyday. However, I feel that what are presumably the elderly owners are clinging on to something that desperately needs to be sold and/or renovated.

Most of the stairways were not lit and in the U.K would definitely be breaking some kind of health and safety regulation - if you fell down the marble stairs you'd probably break your head open. The lifts also seemed a tad unsafe however I did get a thrill from feeling like I was going to drop approximately 7 floors to my death.

Our room, which was spacious (although not all are) felt unclean and was noticeably dirty in places, although the beds were really comfortable and bed linen fine. The breakfast was either a bread roll, salami, cheese or toast with some jam and then tea/coffee/juice. Not entirely great for me as I am both gluten and lactose intolerant (oh the joy) so I ended up drinking juice and having to buy food elsewhere.

The hotel also claims to have wifi, yet you have to pay for it and it is slow depending on where in the hotel you are. There is also wifi in the reception, however it is again very slow.

Having said that, the owners were very friendly and nice, and in an odd way I really enjoyed my stay as it reminded me of a slightly seedy 'Tower of Terror' type place. I'm not sure whether it's just because I'm a student with low expectations and was there with my friends that I felt that way - if I was with family or going as a couple I would be quite angry at the state of it considering that I've looked up the prices and I don't feel they are appropriate. It isn't in the nicest part of town either however it is very central and got us from A to B so really I can't stay I'd never stay there again, but perhaps I only would as a last resort.

If one word sums up this hotel its "Dated". The lifts feel like they were last maintained in 1980 odd and the interior looks like it last had a face lift in the 1920s. My room had ripped curtains and a shower which was virtually impossible to work. Very dark room with windows facing onto a interior dirty courtyard which could at least be painted to not look terrible. Breakfast okay but very very basic. Extreme to have to pay for Wifi in a hotel like this. Okay location close to Brussels Metro and a nice 10 minute walk to city centre, but hardly a good hostel!

Room tip: Rooms facing the road didnt seem too bad

The Hotel Manhattan had extremely dated decor, finishings and a dark interior. The rooms smell of smoke and the breakfast is acceptable. Unfortunately it is not great and the price definitely does not reflect the bad quality of stay! It is in quite a good area though, with the town square just a 10 minute walk! If you are looking for a cheap night in a hotel that will shock you , then by all means go ahead. Don't forget to have your shots before arriving!

Hotel is very old and the items that includes, like bathroom towels, bad (falling apart), mold in bathroom and dust on everything.
The service is AWFUL. Especially the night-shift (fat, old, bald Monsieur) he is very arrogant and rude. My group was denied access at 3 am. because we were loudly in front of the hotel, from his point of view, after several minutes of waiting we entered the hall. After five minutes, police were knocking at our room door, with understanding they left and said "it is misunderstanding with our loudness at the hotel" they came because Monsieur told them that we were loudly and were harassing the neighbors
BIG APOLOGY FROM POLICE BUT NOT FROM MONSIEUR.
My rating -3***

Stayed in this hotel as I had gone with University to visit Belgium. The hotel is located in near center of Brussels and hardly a 5 minute walk to the Grand Palace Belgium and many places are just so close by.

The rooms were just decent enough. The hotel i believe is pretty old with very old elevators in it and it gives the feel of some old scary hotel, the WiFi in rooms isn't free but is free in the lobby. The breakfast provided was just average and not so good.

Would recommend this hotel only and only for its location and nothing else.
