Stayed in the Royal Windsor with my girlfriend in late August 2006 for two nights. The hotel is really nice, perfect location only a couple of minutes stroll from the Grand Place and only a tiny bit further from Gare Centraal. Also, it's only a 5 minutes, 7 euro taxi ride from Brussels Zuid (Midi) which is where the Eurostar and Thalys trains go.

The hotel was very good from start to finish- the front desk staff were polite and attentive, and we didn't have any real problems. The room was very nice, with a gorgeous and comfortable bed. The TV was large, and although curiously placed, fitted in well with the place. The view was not spectacular, looking out as we were onto a road, and the bathroom was just functional, but all in all this was a very good room.

We had no problems at all in the Royal Windsor and I would highly recommend it. The only problem is you have to go to Brussels to stay there, which sadly I would not recommend to anyone!

It was great value for money as we booked at a discounted rate of E230 for 2 nights. We expected the hotel to be less than perfect as a consequence, but the rooms were beautifully clean and well furnished. The staff were well turned out and polite and the location is great - close to Central Station and near to Grand Place and all the restaurants and bars. The only quibble we had was that the gym was closed for a refurb and it wasn't pointed up on the website or on the booking confirmation. Also for some reason we heard some loud music, each of the 2 nights we stayed, at 2am. I don't know if it was from the disco in the hotel but it seemed to last only half and hour and then stop. Still, it was only a small complaint on an otherwise great stay and staying in a central hotel can be a lot noisier and is one of the prices you pay for the convenience. I'd recommend anyone to try it - the bargains are usually in July/August when the Eurocrats all go on holiday leaving the hotels empty. I'd definately book here again next year if the bargain prices were repeated.

There seems to be never more than 2 receptionists, so be prepared to wait (they like this) and the concierge is not particularly friendly either. Getting a light bulb for the room is more than a language problem.
Breakfast is a disaster - inadequate food, especially hot dishes - and waiting for tables to be cleared. Don't ask for anything - you will wait a long time and eventually just go.
Not a good advert for the Leading Hotels.

The only good thing that you can say about this hotel is the location. The staff are very unhelpful, and do nothing to make your stay more enjoyable than a Travelodge.
A 5 star hotel should be a certain standard. I believe that you should be taken to your room, you should have your luggage taken to your room etc etc. Nope. Just get a key and find your own way as the "sole" receptionist was far too busy to leave the reception - surely a 5 star hotel should have porters, doorstaff, duty managers. Having just paid the ridiculously inflated prices that they charge, which was still about half of the advertised rack rate, I did not expect to be dragging my suitcase 100yards along a cobbled street to get a taxi on departure - I expect service.

We were first given a "fashion room". It was a ridiculous modern contempory room with a big bubble tower with a floating bottle of vodka - WHY? It is a sad attampt to make a horrible room, with a horrible view and smell slightly more desirable. We were finally moved to another room which was adequate, but nothing special. There was no feeling of luxury anywhere in the hotel.

At whatever time we turned up for breakfast there was not a table ready and we had to wait until they had relaid the cutlery and crockery on to a dirty tea stained and full of crumbs table. Then there was never any food on the buffet - the standard "it will be 5 minutes" translated into English as it might turn up in about 20 minutes by which time we are hoping you will be too bored to wait and will have left having charged you 25 Euros for a croissant. The breakfast was included in our rate, otherwise just don't bother.

My advice. Stay somewhere else, unless they reassess the hotel, give it the 2 star that it deserves and adjusts the price accordingly.
I am a hotelier myself, and own 3 hotels, so am usually quite understanding and forgiving as I understand the difficulties and pressures of the industry.......enough said.

We stayed here for the 3rd time in August 2006, and what a pleasure.
You can catch the train from Brussels airport to Central station which is literally opposite the hotel. The hotel is without doubt one of the best in Brussels and the welcome at reception is as you would expect from a top class hotel. The rooms are clean, well decorated, fully soundproofed, and you really cannot ask for anything more.
If your rate only includes continental breakfast then the extra cost of the buffet breakfast is 'a bit over the top' so plan ahead.
The location is excellent with the 'Groat Market' just at the back of the hotel and most attractions and shops a short walk away. The board price is a little excessive so shop around for a good deal and you will not be dissappointed. This hotel is ideal for business travellers or couples.
