Having previously enjoyed staying at the Metrople several years ago, I was looking forward to a romantic weekend with my husband. The hotel is a wonderful old building with a fabulous cafe and located very centrally. Unfortunately the hotel rooms, although recently refurbished, were freezing cold and smelled of dampness and drains. We changed rooms after the first night thinking it was a problem with that particular room but I'm sorry to say we had the same problems with the second one. The whole hotel was cold with the exception of the cafe which they manged to successfully heat. The hotel corridors were tired and shabby, leaving the impression that the owners are unwilling to spend the money to restore it to its former glory. Such a shame. I can no longer recommend this hotel and next time will stay elsewhere.
