At the risk of not appering very objctive: every minute in this museum will be worth your while. First, it provides a lot of interactive features, games and physical experiments enabling visitors of all ages to gain knowledge while being entertained and interacting whith one another or reflecting on personal views or prejudices. Starting with the historical collection of scientific instruments, the exhibition elaborates the importance of knowledge: in histrory and today. The broad question invites visitors to think, learn and participate. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Between your explorations you can have a coffee or cake at the museum café. Unfortunately, the beveridges are served in paper-cups. We would have appreciated a more environmentally aware gstronomy in a place that focuses on research, knowledge and responsibility.
The exhibition is in Dutch and often also in English and the whole experience will also work for German-speaking visitors. English-speaking guests will be handed a Tablet that provides the texts in English, however it is annoying to handle since it does not work with any location-based service so you have to look up every object individually. That is why we stopped using it half way through the exhibition and decied to enjoy the exhibition and learning Dutch on the way ;)
Since they just reopened after remodeling the whole museum i suppose they will soon introduce a current device to make this place accessible to a broader public.

This is a great museum covering the history of astronomy, physics, medicine, chemistry, and biology. It starts of with a film which uses an old medical anatomy theatre and the ceilings around to give you a short introduction about the topics covered. Then you proceed to different zones, each covering a specific field. In there are interesting displays detailing how discoveries were made, how scientific instruments work, and you get to experiment with a few of them yourself. Highly informative and interesting with a great mix of experiments that demonstrate the science.

If you are in Leiden, visit this museum. It looks great, has a lot of interesting topics covered, complete with audio fragments and test setups. Make sure you have enough time though, if you want to explore everything!

The Boerhaave museum is completely renewed and opened half december again. It's a great museum now. Collection was and is unique, but it it's placed in a beautiful context now, supported with perfectly balanced AV. Lot of information provided via the touchscreens. Some nice interactive for kids. A must see !

Behind the largest shopping street in Leiden you find a most interesting museum, at least when you like inventions in the fields of medical applications and physics. The set-up of the museum is impressive and in a few big rooms you will enjoy the results of world famous inventions. The "Leidsche fles" is one of them.
