We have travelled extensively and must say this is an absolutely unique hotel - a bit like stepping back into a glorious era but with all the usual comforts - a nice comfy bed and clean modern bathroom. We stayed in the Baroque Suite with wonderful antiques and glorious paintings and the room was Enormous. We felt like wealthy Dutch merchants. The varied and plentiful breakfast was served in the grand dining room complete with chandelier and vinyl 1960’s jazz music playing on a retro disc player. The young staff were friendly and helpful and we are definitely returning to show it off to friends.

Each of the rooms is styled slightly differently. I am unsure about the other rooms but the one that I stayed in had a small kitchen area for cooking with a fridge and kettle. The room had a record player and several vinyls, the space was quite good. The thing that I enjoyed most was the breakfast because they had a nice choice of food and it didn't have that mass-produced hotel feel that breakfasts sometimes have. There was a mix up with the parking permit for the car which was rather annoying as we had to pay a 60€ fine but besides that it was fine.

Beware when booking as the images shown are nice, but when you are allocated a Ground Floor room (at the front) you get a dated room without any atmosphere, but pay the same as for nicer rooms. On top of that there is only 1 old door between your bed and the front entrance / breakfast hall; it feels like ''being awake' in a budget hotel. The bed is great, but you need to ask for a second duvet (try to ignore the most awful duvet color, not matching anything in the room). Breakfast was ok. Mentioning the above to staff does not have any effect, hence this warning on this site.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere if you get a Ground Floor room

A very nice location for this old fashioned hotel, right in the heart of Middelburg. In my room I found an old record player with a collection of vinyl records close by a more modern digital player for iPhone. I am a frequent traveler and at first impact I something a little bit uncomfortable but that is the spirit of this place: establish a different pace for your staying there. I enjoyed the breakfast, with a good variety of food and well attended. The soundtrack of the breakfast was a good selection of classic music. A little bit expansive the night but maybe acceptable if considering the whole service received.

Stayed for three nights in October. I stayed in a very spacious second floor room with free soft drinks and lovely toiletries. The room was was at the front of the hotel and was very quiet. The room was spotlessly clean and had a very comfortable bed. The ensuite bathroom had a ‘rain’ shower. Breakfast was excellent and was served in a spectacular dining room. Staff were wonderfully pleasant and helpful. Very good location. Very highly recommended.
