“Awful !”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

We picked this hotel as the pictures of the bedrooms looked good, and we could have a city view which we thought would be great being that it was New Year. Well the room we was given was filthy it had not been cleaned from the last guests, it was not big enough to swing a cat in, and the view of the city was a back yard, when we went back to reception to complain we were told that a city view did not mean 'city' view and probably this should be altered in their hotel details, really! I am sure guests would probably love looking at a yard from their bedroom window. The staff had the worse attitude I have every come across in a hotel. We walked out with disgust and found a wonderful hotel: Sint Nicolaas, Spuistraat 1a.
which was fantastic.

I have stayed at The Times Hotel a couple of times now, and have overall enjoyed my stay. The rooms have been clean and the breakfast has been adequate.
I think it is in a great, central location, and that you pay for that (it's not a cheap hotel, but good value due to location).
However, be aware that the lift does not get you to all rooms, and some are awkward to get to (steep, narrow stairs). There are no hairdryers in the rooms, BUT the staff on front-desk are very helpful and will lend you one (always handy to know before you get out fo the shower and have to take the long trek downstairs!).
I travelled there on business, and would go back as a tourist (if I could get a deal on the room)!

Perfect location. We didn't need trams as we walked 2 everything we wanted 2 see including the Ann Frank House, the Palace, Dam Square, the Museums and the shops! The hotel is small and modern but still retains the original charm. Reception staff are really helpful and friendly. Rooms are small but clean with nice towels and toilletries. It would have had a 5 star from us but (a) no tea / coffee facilities in the room, (b) bit pricey 4 what you get and (c) breakfast not included (10 euros 4 continental breakfast).

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights when i was travelling for business purposes. My company booked for me so I had no other choice. If it were up to me, i would have stayed elsewhere.
The room was so small that it was hard to move around. Especially the distance between the bed and the wall bearly allowed one person to pass. There was no desk in the room to put your computer on. The walls were so thin that you could hear the TV set in the next room very clearly. The only nice thing about the room was the modern bathroom which was surprisingly big for such a small room.
The hotel had a nice exterior and had a very promising look at the first glance. But unfortunately this changes once you step inside the hotel and the room. The service level is not so good either. When i had a complaint about the noise coming from the adjacent room, they asked me to knock on the door to ask for silence.
I don't want to be unfair but I am normally used to staying in small rooms, however this is way beyond small where it is hard to turn around and breathe.

My partner and i stayed in this hotel recently and were extremely happy with it! On arrival we were given the studio apartment which was spacious, extremely clean and self contained. There were towels and lots of toiletries so we didn't have to worry. We also had a view over the canal which was wonderful! The hotel is situated in a quiet area however it is very close to the centre and a stones throw from the Anne Frank House. There were also some good bars and restaurants nearby if you didn't want to venture into the centre and the red light district!
The staff were extremely helpful and gave directions etc.... they also had a service where they would book online on your behalf for attractions ( which meant you could queue jump too! )
At £150 per night it is not cheap but well worth paying a little extra to stay here and lets not forget that Amsterdam is an expensive place to stay!!! This is my 6th time in Amsterdam and my most enjoyable yet. Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Would recommend the studio apartment!
