Me and my partner booked this last minute. Seemed nice in the reception/bar nothing fancy but nice friendly and cosy. We where given room 3 across the road in what looked like a derilect building. Was told they where doing building work to the reception area. Basic room but that was OK as I didn't pay the earth. Dropped bags went out to enjoy the sights. On return - quite late got in bed and felt a bit itchy. Then I saw something move..... BEDBUGS!!!!!! And not just 1 , quite a few. I ran across to the reception the old man said he couldn't do anything! Arghhhhhhh At 4 in the morning I was walking round Amstetdam looking for a CLEAN hotel room. Found 1 at the ibis. Returned the next day and got full cash refund. Horrible experience , learnt my lesson about budget hotels.

This hotel is in a great location, just 5-10 mins walk from central station. It's really right across the road, and in the heart of the bars, coffee shops and red light district.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are upstairs above the bar, which you have to walk through. Check in is as you enter the bar and always had a friendly service. The bar does food and what we had was spot on! Beer about €5 a pint. The room we had looked out over the canal, it was very basic, the bed and pillows crap, but clean enough and as we were only staying 1 night was adequate. The area outside has any amount of eating places and bars etc, red light district is 2mins walk and worth a look, not shady at all really! The streets the next morning aw covered with rubbish, bottles etc, ( and this was a Wednesday ) but was being cleaned up by 10am.
Would I stay here again?....Yes
