We spent a long time reviewing hotels before we made a choice. Many of the cheaper hotels seemed to be hostel types and we wanted something better but still at a reasonable price. We are a family of four with two children aged 17 and 15 and wanted somewhere suitable to explore the city. This hotel was ideal. It was clean and welcoming. We had a room with four single beds and an en suite shower and toilet. The breakfast was continental, but there was plenty. Others have mentioned the traditional narrow steep stairways, so beware. The location is good, just along from Anne Frank's house, but away from the noisier parts of the centre - you must expect to walk or catch trams to get to the sites wherever you choose in Amsterdam. Whilst there we had a good meal at a good price at Rancho, a steak and ribs restaurant further out from Dam Square (10 - 15 euros and 4.50 euros for a pint of local lager).
