“The best location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2012

Owl Hotel is all about the location. Near Vondelpark and Leidseplein, but on still on a quiet street.

Bathrooms were new, but the rooms were not. This didn't matter because the staff was so nice and I got to pet the cat that lives in this hotel:)

Breakfast wasn't as bad as some reviews suggested. Great value for your money!

THis 3 star hotel is situated in a poch Amsterdam neighbourhood and is located in a perfect spot for explorations of the city by foot. The receptionist are very friendly and will welcome you most sincere, including all tourist information required. It caters fo the basic necessities of the tourist that does not want to spend a lot on the hotels. Please make sure you get a room in the back of the hotel as many visitors of the Leidseplein will park their car in this street leaving after 12 or early in the morning. Do not expect anything you did not ask for.

Room Tip: Please make sure you get a room in the back of the hotel for a better night sleep

I really like the hotel. A nice and quiet place, near to the museums and the Vondelpark and with easy access to the best of Amsterdam. Is a little bit expensive, however the hotel have a very nice breakfast and a friendly and helpful staff. I probably will stay there again when in the city.

Stayed here for 3 days awaiting flight connections - and I'd stay here again if the opportunity arose. Wonderful neighborhood, easy connection to Schipol on Bus #197 - only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop. Terrific staff - extremely helpful.

Room Tip: Expect a small room so don't bring more than one bag. You'll love the lift. There is a swi...

We stayed in the Owl hotel for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay.
The staff were very welcoming, polite, friendly, well informed and always helpful.
The hotel is situated in a quiet, leafy side street in the museum quarter, near Vondelpark and just ten minutes walk from the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum. Central Amsterdam is within walking distance (about half an hour) or you can get a bus, tram or canal bus from the nearby Leidseplein to all the major tourist attractions. I would recommend the canal bus.
We stayed in a double room with en-suite bathroom on the 3rd floor. The stairs are steep but there is a lift. Our room was at the side of the hotel and looked out over trees and gardens. It was quite peaceful. The weather was warm so we always had the window open. The area was not silent but not noisy either. The room was not particularly large but big enough for two people. There was a double bed, two bedside cabinets, a dressing table, a fitted wardrobe, two chairs and a TV. The bathroom was a good size and everything was beautifully clean.
On the ground floor there is a small, comfortable lounge area and bar and an attractive breakfast room which looks out over a lovely shady little garden.
We thought the breakfasts were good with plenty of choice. It is true that the only hot food on offer was a boiled egg but there was a wide selection of hot drinks, fruit juice, yogurt, fruit, ham, cheese and four or five different kinds of bread which you could toast if you wanted. There was plenty of food and everything was very fresh. Considering that most British hotels seem to think a "continental breakfast" is a roll and a cup of coffee I think the Owl hotel did very well.
Check out time is 11:00 am but they will store your luggage for you if you have a later flight. We spent the day having one last look around Amsterdam then came back to the hotel and had a drink out in the garden while waiting for the shuttle bus to take us to the airport.
It is hard for me to find anything to criticise about the Owl Hotel. They do have a cat. (A plus point for me but some people might not like it.) I suppose if you like your hotel to be a soulless, concrete and plastic box decorated in the latest fashion this probably isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel with a little bit of character to use as a base while you visit Amsterdam this is perfect. I liked everything about it. I liked the area. I liked the hotel. I liked the fact that the decor reflected someone's taste rather than a corporate image. I liked the dutch tiles on the wall in the breakfast room and the cabinet full of china owls at the bottom of the stairs. I liked the steep stairs and the old-fashioned lift. I liked the cat.

Room Tip: If we go back I would probably ask for a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the garden.
