“Wonderful Bed and Breakfast!”
Reviewed 26 April 2012

We stayed at the Posthoorn for 3 nights in April. It was absolutely wonderful. Our room (the canal view room) was just beautiful, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Francois was the perfect host and went out of his way to provide everything we needed. The location is great, so much quieter than other areas of Amsterdam. We highly recommend the Posthoorn and hope to be able to visit again.

Me and my 12 yo daughter stayed in The Posthoorn one week, between 11-18 of April 2012.
Everything was wonderful, the good taste was everywhere and Francois is the perfect host and the kindly, brilliant and charming dutch (french) man.
We booked here even in October 2011 and we aren't disappointed in any aspect.
The Posthoorn is the image of perfection, as every b@b should be.
MERCI BEAUCOUP, CHER FRANCOIS!

and let's talk about Amsterdam! Easy to say, hard to do...
To talk, or write, you must first get out of the feeling of unreal that you are after everything you saw and you lived in the few days spent here.
So, can you do it, you need to go there, feel the pulse of the city, see the set of tourists, all with a big smile on their faces, to know that you have to be for a couple of days in Paradise.
To do it best, you gotta walk on the paved streets along channels, cuted by dozens of charming bridges.
And where you can do that better than in the old and beautiful Joordan???
And, to be totally perfect, you have to sit in one of the hundreds of houses, none the same, placed along channels.
We had the privilege to sit in such a house, along Prinsengracht.
The Posthoorn is the picture of perfection. Everything is arranged in detail, with an incredible good taste, large and luminous room, big and spotlessly clean bathroom, a nice back patio, a lovely kitchenette, equipped with everything you need (toaster, microwave, electric hob, coffee maker), where we served the wonderful breakfast, and a private entrance.
But, what makes The Posthoorn so special is FRANCOIS.
Never intrusive, but always present if you need something, is the most kindly, knowledgeable and charming person we ever meet. Merci beaucoup, Francois!
We spent an incredible week here, and the only thing we regretted was the fact that we spent so little time AT HOME, but we were in Amsterdam!
Highly recommending!

A great place to stay. The location is fantastic, on the same road as Anne frank house and in a really nice trendy area. We could walk to the central areas in 15mins and down to van gough museum in 20mins max. Francois is brilliant, gave us a handy map and lots of tips on where to go and where not to go, also recommended a really delicious Thai restaurant 5mins from the b&b that was good value too. The breakfast is amazing and the coffee maker and complimentary drinks are a really nice touch. We stayed in the patio room, which is lovely, very comfy (big) bed and sofa, great shower room. Only down side is as it is a large old Amsterdam house you can hear the people above you ie children running around, but that is only in the afternoon when you are mainly out anyway, v quiet at night so we got lots of good sleep. All in all a great place... Oh and we did leave some clothes in a cupboard which francois is kindly posting back to us!

My wife and are are partial to small hotels and B&B's , and in the Posthoorn , we came upon a gem !

The building is wonderfully situated , within walking distance of more attractions than our 5 day stay could encompass ; and the walks themselves soon became a major attraction for us . What a marvellous area !

Our room (Canal View) was a happy choice ... clean , comfortable , and our window on the city !

Francois is the perfect host . He is aware of the history of the city , and particularly of the very interesting history of the building itself . He is attentive , thoughtful , shares good advice on where to go and what to do , and adds little things (complimentary wine , drinks , coffee , tea) and "room service" breakfasts , which add to your experience and your comfort .

We've stayed in many B&B's , and had many fine experiences , but none better than the Posthoorn . Unless you like to be in large (and more luxurious) hotels , or in the more obvious tourist areas , you won't find better

The Canal View Room, Patio Room and Hidden Church Room ooze opulent and stylish character within the pleasant atmosphere of this contemporary bed and breakfast flawlessly disguised in the old-fashioned exterior of this canal house. The history behind this interesting building dates back to 1578, during which time Catholics were refused to visit their churches so several hidden churches were built in private houses. The elegant decor of The Posthoorn is boasted throughout each and every room. The livingspaces feature a flat-screen cable TV, en-suite bathroom with under-floor heating, comfortable sofas, free wireless internet. Full continental breakfast including freshly baked bread and croissants is served to guests in their room each morning. Staff aim to make guests' stay at the Posthoorn memorable. ... more   less
