Plus points: Location is very good, 1 or 2 blocks from the most fun area (restaurants and bars) in Amsterdam.
Minus Points: We didn't like the Hotel. Rooms are extremely dark, with weak lamps and poor decoration. Our room was in the terrible 4th floor. The room was inclined like the piza tour. The Hotel doesn't have lift, and we underestimated this weakness. It was terrible, we avoided going to the room, as the stairs are awful. Getting up and down is a nightmare, and even worse with the luggage. Staff was not very friendly (only 1 guy was very nice). Too much expensive for such a terrible room, not confortable at all!

not in the 'trashy' area. walking distance to nearest tram stop is 2-5min. nice shopping area (though expensive)-but good for window shopping! BULLDOG coffeeshop=excellent atmosphere (relaxed and urban music with funny bar staff that speak perfect english). Plenty of food outlets in walking distance-especially Ben & Jerrys, pancake places, hardrock cafe, mcdonalds, and lots of others. stairs in hotel are steep as expected-but rooms were clean and ample size. we had great view of canal on top floor in the quad room. tv channels inc. english music channels and news channels and some others. hairdryer, iron and ironing board available from reception on request (though you do have to carry them up and down the stairs!) each room has 1 english, 3 pin-plug and other 2 pin plugs. i-pod docking station in the room was great for when we were getting ready to go out. didnt drink in the bar, but there is a bar in the reception. downstairs there was info board on things to do - and many of the info cards included some form of discount/offer (eg free sundae at hard rock cafe/25% discount for bike hire etc). toilets on each floor if youre caught short on way to room! clean outside the hotel as well as inside. totally recommend-would go again. oh and free map in reception-to which the staff tell you the easiest/quickest routes to places on request. o and clean towels per guest. and more on request-we were offered more on the 2nd day-so yeah, great service

Room Tip: heat rises-so top floor (4th floor) got very hot with 4 bodies in there using iron and hairdryer!

small room with no bathroom but was clean and the price and location made up for the deficits. The staff were super helpful and nice to talk to and the bar in the hotel had some good beers. would stay here again but would get a room with my own bathroom.
