As we were staying at the Atlantis by Giardino, we could not pass up the opportunity to dine at the 2 Michelin-starred restaurant. This does come at a price, but if you can swing it, you need to get over it and enjoy the excellent service and flawless presentation of the flavourful dishes. The only hiccup was that the server forgot which type of water we wanted. (there are a restricted number of diners and not all tables were occupied.)
We had the chef's tasting menu which in our experience is always a good idea. Preceding the 5 courses, were several gifts from the kitchen so I am unsure of the number of courses that we actually had. They pace everything so that you are not rushed and can enjoy the presentation and the flavours of the food. At the conclusion of the meal, we were invited to meet the chef and the team. This was a once in a lifetime experience!

The Ecco Zurich is located at the Hotel Atlantis in the western side of Zurich, but accessible by the S10 local train from downtown.

We were in town to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and looked to treat ourselves to a new restaurant.

We went for dinner on a cold and rainy night...and it was not really obvious how to get from the train stop to the restaurant. When we finally arrived, I was in a pretty bad mood and very soggy from half-kilometre walk in the rain. I felt that we looked so miserable that they would turn us away at the door.

It was not to be. They treated us wonderfully. The service was really excellent, and gave us enough time to relax yet not such long waits that we became restless.

The food and wines...I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. There are so many "extra" courses tho, you really don't need the cheese or dessert courses. There is an overabundance of food.

The restaurant has two Michelin stars...this was clearly reflected in the service, the food, the wines, and of course the price.

All in all, we will definitely return again, but clearly, we will take a taxi in the rain next time!

Ecco!

Meal: Wife and I chose the nine-course dinner. Additionally, you get many greetings from the kitchen so even though the bread is brilliant -- crisp and warm -- don't eat multiple loafs of it, trust me.

Atmosphere: There was a review complaining that this restaurant doesn't overlook the city. That's correct, in fact, our table didn't even have a window view, and you know what? It made no difference whatsoever. Furthermore, I'd go as far as to say that any distraction from the food is unwelcome.
You see, they arrange the meals beautifully, little sculptures of deliciousness that you can enjoy with all senses, which is what wife and I want to be our primary focus. If this restaurant were in a windowless concrete chamber, no problem with us. However, it isn't, the interior is actually very warm and welcoming with a luxurious feel. Look through the pictures!

Service: This was one of the few occasions where our waitress asked us about food allergies or preferences before ordering. Wife and I don't eat bovines, and the kitchen happily accommodated this oddity. I forgot to mention my genetic opposition to coriander, so I had a surprise taste of soap during one course, but that's entirely my fault.
Our wait staff took terrific care of us, never let us run dry, kept the table tidy, entirely living up to our expectations.

Our time at Ecco was outstanding. We'll definitely return for more, whenever our dining budget recovered. In case you didn't realise, the exquisite food and stellar service come at a cost, this really shouldn't be much of a surprise, though, but an expectation.

Ecco has built a great reputation and has been awarded two Michelin stars over only two years. Situated in a quiet residential area out of the city, the Ecco which is housed by the hotel Atlantis, feels a world away from the city's casual restaurant. It is a very dashing interior with comfortable sofas and lounge chairs.

We both selected five and six dishes for our tasting menu. The foie gras was divine, but would have been better enjoyed with a bit more of its warm brioche. Main courses include Wagyu beef which was excellent. We ended our visit at the Ecco with a kitchen tour where we had the chance to speak to the chef.
