Travelled by train and this was really close to walk to and from station. Staff was pleasant and the breakfast was decent. The neighborhood was very quaint and had great character. They gladly held our luggage for us while we toured the city before we had to leave.

Stayed: April 2012, travelled as a couple

Small hotel close to the Central tram stop and walking distance from the train station. I have visited this hotel many times on business trips. Rooms are somewhat small but comfortable and clean. Internet access point available in the lobby. English newspapers available at the breakfast buffet. Room rate is within average.

Room Tip: For a change: ask for a CityRoom with graffiti.

Very central location of the hotel. Very clean rooms. Perfect location but quiet. I would definitely recommend.

We stayed here for 2 nights.
The experience was somewhat odd.
This check in was good - the lady who checked us in and assisted us was great. She was pleasant and helpful. It must have been nearing the end of her shift as when we returned we were treated like people who should not be in the lobby.
The new staff member was unhelpful, said her previous colleague should not have offered the assistance we had got and was just rude.
This continued for the remainder of the stay whilst this particular staff member was working. She may have been the manager as well - not a good example for other staff.
There is no concierge, no porter service and room service does not exist.
If you require house keeping after 5pm and on the weekends it appears the staff member at the front desk fills all the above rolls.
The room was spacious and was ok. The heating system seemed to have issues - being to warm and then not working - not rectified. There is tea and coffee facilities in the room - the complimentary Nespresso machine is better than the coffee served in the breakfast and hotel meal area.
The toiletries are not supplied - instead a pump action soap is provided in the shower and adjacent to the hand basin. Good luck if you request some shampoo or conditioner to wash your hair!
The other thing was that the toilet paper never seemed to be replaced - and there was never an extra roll in the room if you run out - again a phone call to the front desk and a snorting grumpy reply usually was the response. But the toilet paper and any other requests usually turned up within a reasonable time.
There is no complimentary WiFi - however the fee for 24 hours of use - not 24 hours in time period is reasonable.
The linen supplied to the room was always smelling of cigarette smells - it was like sleeping with a ash tray under your pillow. Similarly it was the same when using the towels and other linen. I am not sure whether this was stored in an area where staff smoked or whether it was a result of house keeping staff smoking whilst near the linen.
The room was a designated non smoking room, however, there seemed to have been a cigarette smell wafting in the room and carpets.
The continental breakfast was good. The food was good. There was a good selection of pastries, cereals, juices, breads and boiled eggs. Tea and coffee was table service by again one staff member only present for the breakfast period.
She was quite helpful as well, but as she was on her own she was pressured to keep the tables clean and provide coffee and tea service to clients.
She regularly was stacking a platter with dirty cutlery and tableware and on her way back to the kitchen area this fell off and crashed and broke in the meal serving area.
The location is great as others have described. Pretty much across the road from central Zurich station - with minimal luggage a 5 min walk to the hotel.
The area has some lovely restaurants and shops.
The hotel is a short walk to the river, the train station, the main bus and tram terminals.
It is about a ten minute walk to the excursion area for where you are collected to do day trips etc in Zurich.
It appears that the Hotel has limited staff and certainly is not a 4 or 5 star property.
I would suggest that there are other better hotels in this price range that would offer a reasonable and professional customer service.

Room Tip: The rooms appeared to face the river or some old residential areas - probably ask for a river or city view.

I have stayed in the Ruetli now many times for short business stays and it is my favourite hotel in Zurich. It is a great location, right in the centre but still quiet. The rooms are modern and with air con. Wireless is available but at an extra cost. The breakfast is included. It is not a mind blowing breakfast but good. The receptionists are always very friendly and helpful. I stayed many times and never had a problem. Unfortunately it is not always available or sometimes too expensive when I'm in Zurich.
