It's one thing to be told Switzerland is an expensive vacation and another to actually pay those prices. That made Hotel Ni-Mo a special treat, because based on the location and cleanliness and overall newness of the furnishings, I would have guessed it to cost twice as much at least.

The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was chic. As an American, I'm used to drawers to put my clothes in, but that's more of a cultural thing, and there was enough space to make it work without stepping over my suitcase every morning.

The staff was personable and went out of their way to help us with luggage. We even took photos with them and hugged when we left. I'm not sure there's a better property in Zurich!

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony

We stayed for 6 nights, in a twin bedroom, named Rennweg.

The attitude of the staff is most kind and helpful.
The breakfast is rich and has a nice variety of food and beverage.
At the room we got every day free bottles of water, and you can always get more if you like.
The bathroom is equipped with all kind of toiletries.
The hotel is newly renovated, the rooms are modernly decorated and very spacious.
The location is great, near Bahnhofstr, behind Zurich Opera, near the lake, with good transportation links.
It was a perfect vacation.

Room Tip: Rennweg room is very good

We stayed here for 2 nights last week during our trip to Zurich. There were three of us (my two daughters and I) and we shared a room with a balcony. The room is clean but basic - there is a large bed, shower (which was great) and separate toilet.

What we liked: the location - very close to the tram stop and convenient to get into town, the staff - very friendly and helpful, the breakfast room - there is 24 hours access to hot water, milk, and instant coffee machine, the breakfast - excellent pastries, good range of fruit and deli meats as well as eggs cooked to order, the peaceful setting - despite being on a commercial street, we didn't hear any street noise.

What we didn't like: no assistance with luggage out of hours - when we checked in, the lady helped us with our bags to our room.

We have travelled all over the world, staying in a wide range of accommodations, including beach huts, 5 star hotels, bed and breakfasts and private rentals (with and without owners). In this context, if you are not expecting luxury and full service, Hotel Ni-Mo completely met our needs for a short european break. However, if you are expecting the Four Seasons, you will be disappointed. It is classified under bed and breakfast and this is an accurate description.

I have mixed feelings about this place. First the good stuff: the rooms are large, the wifi is good, it is clean, the location is terrific for exploring the old city and lake/river front, room prices are reasonable for this crazy expensive city, and the breakfasts are passable. Now the not so good stuff: the rooms are stark with simply functional furniture that signal the room as good for sleeping, but not for "hanging around" (the same for the balcony overlooking an office building); the bed is soft to the point of mushy (although, granted, this is about personal preference), although the "lobby" (read breakfast room) has coffee and water available 24 hours, there is nothing in the room to boil water, the toilet and shower face the bed as disconnected closets, and worst of all, there are personnel available only part of the day. Want help with your luggage? Forget about it. Need to check in after 10 pm? You are on your own finding a lock box behind the building. Need help with something? Better ask for it before 3 pm. Reviews of this hotel as fantastic or excellent are simply over the top. As a B&B, I guess folks are comfortable with what is essentially a very reasonable budget experience. But if you are looking for a good HOTEL experience, you need to look elsewhere.

Hotel NiMo is THE place to stay in Zurich. If you want a great Bed and Breakfast with a modern ambiance this is the place for you. Our hosts were very friendly, welcoming and full of information about the city. Our room, Bahnhofstrasse, was on the top floor and fit our needs perfectly. The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed and great pillows. It faced the courtyard and was very quiet. The bathroom was large with walk in shower. Fresh towels were delivered daily. The continental breakfast was generous with a great selection of meats, cheeses, cereals, breads and eggs. A Nespresso machine was available 24 hours a day. The hotel is in a great location, close to downtown, the local train station and great restaurants. We highly recommend Hotel NiMo and would stay there again.

Room Tip: If you need a quiet room ask for one that faces the courtyard.
