“Generally...excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2007

Frankly, if I'd have checked trip advisor before we booked the Kindli we might not have (it's kind of low down in the ratings) but we turned out to love it! Admittedly, the room was a bit small (though the television happily allowed access to the U.S. Open tennis tournament coverage via the EuroSport channel) and a bit claustrophobic (high window, noisy cobbled street outside). Bathroom was lovely, with a nice deep tub and window. I will say it was a small room....

What made the stay was two things: the staff was just great, just great. Couldn't have been more welcoming to this Finnish and American couple. Second? The location is divine. Love the old town, it's close to everything (we just walked and walked and walked) and we found a lovely French bistro restaurant around the corner for dinner that was a prize (can't remember the name but the hotel recommended it).

One really nice touch was breakfast. It was a substantial European spread. I'm not a big coffee drinker and so I asked for diet Coke, fully expecting to be presented with a bill. In fact I asked for two. And there was no bill. That was nice....

We'd go back in a heartbeat but I would book a better room (and would pay accordingly with no problem). It must be stated that we arranged our trip to Zurich at the last minute so weren't exactly in the catbird's seat in terms of choosing rooms!

We read about this small hotel on Karen Brown (she writes travel guides in the U.S. that cover Europe and America) website (it led us as well to a fabulous place in Lucerne, which was our home for the following two nights on our summer mini-break; that review is already posted). Great. We're planning a return trip next summer (though if airfares are reasonable may try Geneva this time around). Just because!

  • Liked — warm staff, lovely building
  • Disliked — room was too small for two!

A very nice 3 to 4 star hotel one block off the Bahnhofstrasse and near restaurants, churches and Lindenhof park. The room was very nice although a little small. The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. Internet available as well as coffee drinks all day. One of the features was the wonderful Hastens adjustable bed which is probably a $10K bed or more. One great sleep. We stayed at both the Kindli and the Romantik Florhof (which is doing major construction) both of which are in the Karen Brown book. They are the same price but we preferred this hotel as a better room, more convenient and there are restaurants nearby in addition to the hotel restaurant.

  • Liked — the Hastens bed
  • Disliked — minimal lobby
  • Tips/Secrets — walk up the pedestrian street to the famous park just 50 yards from the hotel

What a dream come true. Just returned from the Kidli. What a lovely intimate hotel. Staff could not be more wonderful, the hotel itself is more like staying at a very plush friends house. Best beds anywhere near this price ive yet slept on in Europe. They go so out of their way to make thier place a respit in the middle of the city. Location can not be beat. Very quite at night, but right in the middle of a nice lovely area. Everything is walkable from here. We arrived over easter, buckets of fresh flowers, candies, fruit and candles filled the entry; we even got a lovely small easter basket filled with candies that evening in our room. Their breakfast buffet is the best ive had yet in Switzerland bar none....impecibally fresh, stunning restaurant setting below the hotel as well. As an American, we are used to being charged for every ammentity...at the Kindli, snacks are free, high speed internet if free (they will even let you use their office computers to check email if you like), mini-bar is free and all taxs are built into the price. I cannot recommend it enough. The decor is very very Laura Ashley - i.e. very floral and feminine....not what I would call my taste at first glance, but it turned out to be perfect contrast to the city aesthetic. Each room if completely different, so the photos hardly do them justice...they are tiny (especially the singles), but Id rather have very sumptous small than tacky large. Photos dont do it justice (I know...i tried to photograph to show friends at home...its MUCH nicer in person even). Cant wait to return!

What a truely refined place. The staff was very professional. We loved all of the extra touches that made you feel pampered from the tea service at any time of the day to the slippers in the bathroom. The breakfast was very classy. We would highly reccomed this wonderful spot and can't wait to get back there again.
