Owner description: The National Museum enjoys a central position just a minute’s walk from the main railway station in Zurich. The museum is one of the attractions of this city on the River Limmat. Gustav Gull’s listed building from the 19th century has been extended with the addition of a new building designed by architects Christ & Gantenbein and completed in summer 2016. The museum showcases the history of Switzerland from its early beginnings until the present day in the permanent exhibitions “Archaeology in Switzerland”, “History of Switzerland” and “Collections Gallery”. Every year, there are also several temporary exhibitions and an impressive fringe programme, offering everything from debates to workshops.

the outside looks really nice but the exhibits are a bit of a letdown, in my opinion. also a bit annoying that most descriptions are not in English. They do have English info cards but these do not always tally with the exhibits.

This is a huge museum so if you are pressed for time, please decide the parts of museum you would like to see before starting. What I did not like is that there was no easy way of skipping parts since there is only one way through the exhibit. I enjoyed history of Swiss civilization, and the development of industries. I also enjoyed several rooms dating back to fifteenth and sixteenth century. Armaments and aromour collection at the top is interesting too.

The museum has a lot of nice things to display, very good for those who are interested in an overview of Swiss culture and traditions. The architecture of the museum is very nice as well. Definitively a good place to visit during your stay in Zürich...

You're not allowed to pictures inside, so it's difficult to show how this compares to other museums. There is some exhibits that show the history of Switzerland, and I have to admit the most intersting part was the way they heated their homes

Yesterday we visited the excellent Kunsthaus, one of the very best Museums of Art i have been too, so today we headed out with great anticipation to the LandesMuseum right by the HauptBahnhof. outside is great as the museum is house in a castle like setting. Inside the front desk is very poor serviced & the layout is a disaster, toilets in one wing on the ground floor, cloakrooms in the other wing on the 2nd floor. Just weird, but sadly what struck me is just how boring & disorganized this musem is, its like a lot of random stuff was collected & thrown together without any great plan, The History of Switzerland part was ok but IMHO the story was told in a very disjointed manner, the exhibit on TV & Clothes & Shoes was just flat out turgid.
Im glad this wasnt the 1st museum i ever visited in my life otherwise i would have been 1 & done.
