“Good location but.......”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

I spent one night in the grand hotel Suisse majestic at the end of February. I booked deluxe room with lake view on booking.com for euro 145....worth noting that half of the hotel rooms can see the lake....the deluxe room...room 402...is small with no carpet and creaks when you walk on it.....a/c doesn't work....room too hot with patio door closed too cold with it open....the staff were excellent though....all requests were politely and efficiently dealt with....I looked for a sandwich the night I stayed but they could nt supply any... Instead I had tapas from the bar for chf 12, which for the amount I get I thought was very expensive....I wanted room service but there was no menu in the room....simple things that make stays worthwhile were lacking I felt although some others were very good....the location of the hotel across from the train station is its best selling point

Room Tip: Lake view room from higher floors are worth it when the weather is good

We wanted a hotel on the lake and we got it! It is a fabulous location with stunning views which are now my screen saver. We kept the curtain open at night to ensure we had a view of the sun rising over the lake. We were on the 6 th floor which was perfect. A recent refurb meant the rooms were at their best, bathrooms were top quality with l'occitane toiletries, scrum my! We sat out on the balcony in the evening and watched people strolling along the promenade. Before going out to dinner we had cocktails on the terrace downstairs overlooking the lake to watch the sun go down. It felt like such a treat. Breakfast was more than adequate with views over the lake which is divine. Service was impeccable, all the staff were very helpful and were plentiful. This is a high class hotel, well worth the cost. We went for two nights but could easily have spent a week. The location is perfect to reach all local amenities with an escalator outside to take you down to the lake! It's also easyto drive here if you collect a car from the airport it's a straight run. You can park across the road overnight. This is the most perfect place for either a short break or a longer holiday. Lots of amazing places to see within a short drive. We love it here, would definitely return to this hotel, we can't wait to come back. This was our second time to Montreux, our first to this hotel but not our last I hope!

Room Tip: 6th floor, lake view.

We stayed at this hotel for two days and it was amazing. Central location made it easy to navigate the city and it is located across from the train station so getting to sights is a breeze. They offer free coffee and espresso and it is OK to bring your own wine to enjoy on the back patio with the Alps and Lac Leman unobstructed views at sunset. The rooms are very nice all the furnishings are new and really nice beds and hardwood floors. Stunning place to stay. Got this room in the off season was well worth staying here even if it is only one night you will love it.The staff is very helpful and friendly as well. It is also a historic french building very beautiful place.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the train station are very nice and cheaper. The rooms facing the Alps are about double...

Excellent location in Montreux and really worth booking a lake view room for the stunning outlook. The room had been renovated recently and was really very pleasant. However the bathroom was very small and toiletries provided only just for this standard of hotel. A small point but they bill themselves as "luxury". No bathrobes. No tea and coffee making facilities in-room. They do provide free coffee facilities in the foyer however where you can help yourself to Nespresso machines. However nobody told us about that when we checked in so we had to guess after a while. I asked for a kettle and was given one - no tea or coffee however. Made a fuss about providing an iron but I did get one. Internet access in-room is free. The staff are very young and the reception team are very pleasant and obliging. Everyone speaks english. However even though they were nice they weren't very forthcoming with any information eg breakfast times, the free tea and coffee, transport etc. Once you ask you are told but you have to ask. The serious disappointment was the restaurant which accounts for much of this 'average' rating. Again, views and outlook are stunning. We had an abyssmal meal and the service was atrocious. Again a very young team. There is a lot of theatre about deliverying food to the table. One waiter carries the meal on a tray whilst another one brings a luggage rack looking device for them to sit it on. What a waste of resources and not teaching the young team anything. They provided some nice charcuterie and bread. We ordered steak and bernaise sauce. Admittedly we've had steaks cooked several times in Europe which don't suit out antipodean tastes. However the plates were cold, the sauce in a pot straight out of the fridge and some tastless little straw like french fries. The steaks actually made me gag and my husband couldn't stomach his either. They were luke warm with a slightly "boiled" flavour (again not unheard of) and a somewhat gelatinous texture which gave them a fatty mouth feel. We left most of the meal untouched which is OK I guess except that we then sat fror 30-40 minutes with the food congealing on the plates in front of us with no comment from staff or offer to clear the plates - despite the head waiter removing our empty wine bottle. We might have tried dessert and coffee if we'd been asked but eventually just left. We commented to a lady who appeared to be a manager at reception that the service was very poor (after asking what time breakfast was served til) and she asked for our room number. However we were charged the full price for the meal when we checked out and had given up by then. Breakfast was adequate and service good both mornings but we might have expected more from a hotel of this standard. Had much better breakfasts at lesser hotels.

Room Tip: Look for a discount on accommodation websites or the hotel's website. Not worth full rack rate...

One of the best hotels in Montreux. With amazing view and excellent service and comfort!
For sure will visit this place and will stay in Suisse Majestic. The location is perfect just few steps from the train station and in the middle of Montreux. to reach each point it will take you no longer than 5 minutes.

Will suggest this hotel to everyone and of course to my friends and relatives.

Room Tip: I suggest everyone, when you make a reservation ask for a Lake View room. You will not regret!
