Located in the old city section of Sion, Hotel du Rhone offers easy walking to the old world charms common in this French speaking region of Switzerland.
Pros – The staff speak English, are friendly and very helpful with offering suggestions on sights to see in the area. Our room faced the old city and had a view of the ancient abbey of Valere. It was average sized, had a moderately comfortable bed, a small but clean and functional bath. The hotel location is right at the edge of Old City, with easy walking access to its restaurants, shops and other features. No free parking but the adjacent COOP has underground parking with elevator lift to the lobby for only 10 CHF/day (park -2 level) – that’s cheap for city parking.
Cons – No A/C. No free breakfast. They charge you 15 CHF/person for breads, cheese, and cereal; no scrambled eggs or bacon. It’s not worth it.
Attractions - The old city of Sion, and numerous hiking options outside of the city.

Room Tip: Paying the extra 15CHF/person for breakfast is not recommended.

It's a bit of a hike from the SwissRail train station...uphill, but the location at the edge of the city centre and Old City of Sion was perfect for our visit.

With entry at street level, you need to take an elevator to the reception level, then another elevator to your room level.

Our room was very basic, nothing fancy for sure, but clean, functional, and with a comfortable bed.

It was really hot the day we arrived, but the rooms come with external adjustable window shutters that could be raised or lowered with a remote cranking mechanism inside the room, which we really needed for our south-facing room (also gave us privacy). There's no air conditioning, but the room came with a very quiet & effective fan that we could sit on a table facing the bed.

Nespresso coffee maker in room with lots of coffee pods. Room safe was roomy enough for laptop, tablet, and DSLR cameras.

Breakfast is included in the hotel's Ba-Chi-Bou restaurant/dining room on a lower level (that leads out onto a large outdoor eating area shaded with tall trees). Like the the room, a very basic breakfast buffet but with plenty of choices of cereals, juices, cold cuts, cheeses, and hot items.

Overall a good place to stay that met our needs. And you can let gravity do all the work on your return to the train station.

The location is very good, basically in the city centre and within 5 min you're in the pedestrian zone. The hotel reception is on the 2nd floor, that's good to know, on the ground floor there's only the restaurant and on the 1st floor there are some conference rooms. So the hotel is basically from 2.-5. floor. The room was ok, the bathroom was rather old with a bathtub and an old shower curtain.
Breakfast was ok, nothing special but it had everything you might want.
Ok for 1 or 2 nights, but not more.

In the center of town, near all the action. Modern, clean but not cheap. We paid 160 swiss francs for one night for 2 people breakfast included. There was a coffee making machine, capsuls, teabags, cups in the room which was nice. Good view of the mountains from the window. You can open the windows if you like, often you can't.Parking at the Co-op below for frs 10 for one day with a direct lift to the hotel.
We had room 301 which was big.

Room Tip: as high up as possible because of the traffic

a typical swiss hotel with some interesting quirks. the reception is on the second floor and the parking garage is part of the coop, which you need to know first. also from the reception ( on the second floor), there is another elevator going to the rooms, where there is another second floor. so if you are american you will be double confused, because as usual the first floor is one staircase up, but then you have two second floors, so be prepared to climb a bit if you plan to take the stairs. other than that the hotel is great with friendly personnel. we had no problem getting connecting rooms for ourselves and our kids. breakfast is swiss, which means a nice selection of mueslis, fresh fruit, fresh bread and great cheese. you can boil an egg yourself, which is really convenient. the rooms are spacious enough, but as everywhere in the mountains quite warm. the showers are fantastic hot and strong. overall a good place to be if you have business or friends in sion.
