we spent a romantic week in Lugano
the Hotel stuff were all nice and spike good english

its a retro style hotel so
you use a real key to the room with a heavy keychain,
the interiour of the hotel is decorated with Roman style statues and pictures.

the garden is very big and nice to walk around.
There is a swimming pool which we didn't use.
Parking is free outside and even in the underground parking

Breakfast is ok.

Room Tip: Ground and first floor has balcony

This Hotel is perhaps to be regarded as the affordable annex to the very much more elaborate Villa Leopoldo across the road. Built in the late 70's, it is in immediate need of serious refurbishment, having threadbare carpets, hopelessly outdated decor and ineffective air conditioning units. There were no views on offer even though we had a "modern" room, which was effectively a suite.
Even at the discounted rate of CH350 for one night, this was not what we were expecting, and my fiancée was visibly very disappointed. As was I.

This hotel is one of two hotels. There is an all singing and dancing 5 star hotel and then this place which is four star and is situated in a modern block about 100 metres away from the 5 star Villa Principe Leopoldo a fabulous former house situated high above Lake Lugano. Chalk and Cheese here and with a common communication system you can easily get confused between the two so make sure you know that the Villa Principe Leopoldo is the 5 star hotel and Park Hotel Principe is the 4 star hotel and you won't go wrong. The 4star hotel is excellent in most respects but curiously has an old worn out green carpet leading from reception to the rooms which are spacious and very well appointed. A housekeeping gaffe caused us some grief in that the patio door was left open whilst we went to dinner creating a security problem ( we were on the ground floor) and we had an up close and personal experience with all manner of flying insects on our return to the room. Unfortunately the room safe was rusty and did not have a key so we couldn't lock stuff up but thankfully there was not a problem
We had dinner in the gourmet restaurant in the 5 star restaurant which this time of the year is situated in a very posh tent overlooking Lake Lugano. Very good place despite ordering the wrong thing - not a complaint I just made a mistake.
A large group of Russian plastic surgery survivors were having a party in the restaurant (20 people)which provided us with an excellent and rewarding cabaret. I am not sure I would visit again but I am very pleased to have been there. Remember that this place in its 5 star form is eye wateringly expensive but the 4 star sister is actually very reasonable. Hope this helps.

Dear Mr Rumpole70,

thank you for sharing your feedback on Tripadvisor and for your advise. We have promptly separated the two hotels with different names and star category, in order to be very clear and transparent with our guests. The reservation, in each and every channel, is specific for each hotel and might not (in no way) be misleading.

Anyway we consider a plus for our guest to be free to access to all the restaurant and bar in both of our hotels, as they are services open also for guest not staying in the Hotel. We are desolated for the room safe. if informed we would have replaced it immediately.

I permit myself to take the distances from your sentence about our guests in the Restaurant. We are not use to make judgments, and we do not appreciate prejudices.

We anyway wish you will choose to return to our Hotel.
Looking forward to welcome you back, our best regards

Barbara Gibellini

If you are looking for a quiet and secluded hotel in no walking-distance from the city this might be the one for you. If you have a car you can park in front of the hotel for free or in the paid subterranean garage. If you don’t there is a free hotel-shuttle that brings you frequently to Lugano.

The reception:
The receptionists do speak at least English, some speak French and German. They are all friendly and helpful. Check-in and -out is easy and takes the regular amount of time.

The room:
If you are lucky and get a room in the ground floor you get a really spacious room with a large terrace, which is especially nice in summer. The rooms in the first floor have a similar outline as the ones on the ground floor but with a sunny balcony. Only the rooms in the second floor aren’t as nice as the others. But all have a large comfy double bed. Sometimes two water bottles are offered, and sometimes not.

The restaurant:
If you would like to eat dinner in the restaurant you can eat in the park in summer which is really nice and the food is delicious. The breakfast is also good.

Facilities:
There is a fitness room, a sauna and a solarium you can book for free, a ping-pong table, a swimming pool in the park and if you want you can book a spa treatment in the neighboring Villa Principe Leopoldo.

Complaint:
Even if you stay there for more than 10 nights for various business trips they don’t grant you any amenities at all. No free minibar, no spa voucher. You just stay the regular guest.

I was very sorry reading that you found at the moment no sign of recognition for your fidelity. This is very stimulating for me and I will let you forgive us.
Waiting for your next visit. Best regards from the whole staff.
