Continental Park hotel which was built in the late 1800’s is a historic hotel located near the Lugano train station. Their website stated several reasons for choosing this hotel. Aside from the location, it is top rated. The buffet breakfast is generous and done in a very nostalgic dining area. We visited the pool and garden at the back of the main hotel. It would have been great to use the inviting pool if we had more time in Lugano.

We checked in at the lobby which was in the main building. To our disappointment we were booked in the adjacent building by our travel agent. Our room was situated close to the rail tracks. The noise from the trains was bothersome. Also, the bed linen needed some improvement.

Be sure to book in the main building of the hotel and relax by the poolside. Also, allot time for their excellent breakfast.

If you are looking for a place to stay next to the train station, you could consider this.

The cobbled driveway to the reception is strenuous with your luggage. The reception was poorly handled when we checked-in. We were told our room was accessible by lift, but it was not. We had half a flight of stairs to climb with our luggage. Fortunately another guest helped out.

The rooms were average.

The only saving grace was Sandra who not only helped out with our luggage during checkout, approved a late check out, saw that we were comfortable in the bar, after check out and even served us drinks and crisps.

Provides you all basic amenities required. Doesnot cook afternoon lunch so have to search for food on your own. Breakfast is the same daily. Location is the only plus point. Otherwise an average hotel.

This hotel could be somewhat impersonal save for the fantastic bartender Giuseppe. He cracks jokes, speaks four languages, gives tips about where to visit, and works non stop. Despite the bar be loaded with people during happy hour he mixed complex cocktails and gave out lots of chocolate. To the management-Give this guy a raise and some time off in peak season. He is fantastic.

Booked 3 nights here. From trip advisor thought it was much closer to lake...not up a huge hill! And not on the railway lines! We were told by taxi driver that it was very short distance to hotel. It was close, in fact too close.
When we hauled our bags up the cobbled driveway we were relieved to find they had a lift up to reception. Great! When we finally got to the front of the line the receptionist was rather cool towards us. We were given the key and told we were downstairs! Huh I thought I had booked a superior room with a lake view! So we went back down the lift with our bags and found the room along the garden but underneath the building. Feeling like we were in the cellar! The room was set up specifically for wheelchair access so we felt a bit awkward. We also found there was no lake view only a view of passers by!
So I went back up to reception and spoke to the receptionist. She eventually agreed to give me another room. Not in the hotel but in the annex. So we trot over there and find our, room with a view!, but on the front corner also right beside the train line. And it turned out at night was full of lights so no sleep for us as despite the sheers there were no blinds and our room was lit up like a lighthouse.
The room was very compact especially the bathroom. It's amazing what you can fit into a less than 2m square space oh and only frosted glass door and wall between it and the bedroom.
BUT the main hotel was lovely the bar fabulous despite being expensive, the lounge and restaurant lovely. We had dinner the first night in, as it was raining and we didn't feel like going out which was ok.nothing to write home about. The breakfast the next morning was extensive but I'm amazed at some of the most inappropriate choices given to guests including sweets and donuts. Not the healthiest start to the day. Anyway glad this hotel is over with wouldn't stay here again!
