A brilliant trip. The winter scenery was fantastic. I really enjoyed the whole trip, but the highlights were the Brusio circular viaduct and a stop at Alp Grum in a snowstorm.

We reserved our window seats well in advance and then got our Swiss Travel passes just before we came away. We got on at Chur at 0820 in the morning. Arrived in Tirano at around 1245 giving us an hour and a half in Tirano. We caught the 1425 from Tirano getting back into Chur sometime after 1800. In terms of where is best to sit, heading out of Chur it is I think better to be on the right hand side of the train, so the better views are right in front of you. Before you get on the train there is the opportunity to stock up with food from one of the good outlets dotted around the station. Although there is a good trolley service on board. Make sure you take your sunglasses with you it can get bright and warm on board if the sun is shining. Tirano was like shut when we got there, although the odd cafe was open. The Train stops at Alp Grun to allow passengers to get off and take a few pictures of the view. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip even though it was a long day. Well worth doing though.

Charming trip down through the Alps to Italy. Swiss efficiency for sure.....to the point that our friend missed the train, as it left on time! The next local train had them catch up at the end of the line....problem solved.

This trip from Chur to Tirano was one of the highlights of our four weeks in London, Paris and Italy. The views from the train are spectacular. Must be one of the great railway journeys. If you need to travel to Italy from London or Paris surely this is the best way to go. It will take a little more time, but it is worth it!

We chose the afternoon departure as it worked into our schedule. Unfortunately the last 1.5 hours of it was in the dark which didn’t allow us to take advantage of the views. What we did see at the start of the journey was stunning. The service from the waitress was very friendly but I found the prices very expensive for what was offered.
