“Lovely chalet, amazing views”
Reviewed 4 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We had a lovely few days in Wengen , wish it could have been longer. Wengen is the ideal place to stay to explore the Jungfrau area. A relaxing car free time, we enjoyed the cable cars and trains. The chalet was very clean, high spec and extremely comfortable. The suggested walks were super. Alpine Holiday Services were really helpful, advising on trips and letting me know where to get a cake made for my daughter's birthday. We would love to return another year.

Beautiful chalet.
Everything is brand new.
Modern sleek interior.
All the appliances and new and in perfect working order.
Spotlessly clean.
Did not need the managers, don't know if they are easy to reach.
It's about half a mile up a fairly steep grade from town.
If for some reason you can not walk that far uphill, this is not the place for you.
I would also talk with them about the key situation before booking.
We had three couples and two keys
We were sometimes going in different directions, getting home at different times. Not having a key to get back in was a problem at least once.
Much nicer than a hotel room. Split three ways the price was about half that of a hotel.
Wi fi is free but as noted pretty slow, if you have to have wifi, better bring a hot spot
Would recommend this place without reservation as long as you are in fairly decent shape.

“Brand new, modern chalet with a view”
Reviewed 9 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This chalet is a beautiful, modern 4 bedroom accommodation in Wengen. My family lived staying here. Beautiful view, huge laundry room in the basement, gourmet kitchen, modern bathrooms, new elevator. About a 7 min walk to the Wengen train station. I would go back in a heartbeat!

“well-appointed high-end chalet penthouse with stunning views”

We stayed in the Chalet Bergfrieden Penthouse for a little over a week in early June. The short review is simply one word: "Awesome!" See below for more detail.

Location: The chalet is located on a very quiet lane heading out of "downtown" Wengen. A hundred meters further down the road and you are watching cows munching grass on the hillside, bells ringing in unison. It's a short walk (700m) downhill to to the center of Wengen and, of course, uphill back to the chalet. There are a number of other chalets and hotels along the way. A couple restaurants (Ristorante-Pizzeria- Steakhouse da Sina and Hotel Schönegg Restaurant) are close by, but it's very easy to get to any part of the village. Easy access to Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch via various modes of transportation, including walking if you are up to it.

Chalet: Situated in the side of a hill the chalet is newly-constructed in the last few years. Ground level has a laundry room with a washer and dryer dedicated to each apartment. A lift takes you up past four levels of apartments to a small landing outside the entrance to the penthouse. The apartment is laid out in a U-shape, with two bedrooms on either side of the U and a living area, kitchen, dining area and a balcony on the base of the U. All finishes (tile, woodwork, flooring, furniture) are of excellent quality.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms: There is one bedroom with twin beds and an en suite shower, lavatory and toilet. One bedroom with a double bed, a balcony, an en suite shower/tub combo, lavatory and toilet. One bedroom with twin beds and a balcony overlooking Wengen and the mountains. One bedroom with a double bed and a balcony, also overlooking Wengen and the mountains. And a very large separate bathroom with shower/tub combo, lavatory and toilet. Being that there were just three of us, this made for two totally private "wings" on either side of the U.

Kitchen: The kitchen was very modern and spacious with a cooktop, oven dishwasher and refrigerator, all very high-end. It was open to the living and dining areas and looked out over the balcony to the mountains. The kitchen was very well equipped -- at a level that indicates someone actually lives there at times. Basic items like salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, numerous spices and quite a few non-perishable items are provided. French press and Nespresso coffee makers are available.

Living Areas: The living room was to one side of the open dining/kitchen/living room area. It had a long comfy sofa that was fine for the three of us. I think it would be a little tight if you tried to fit eight people however. At the opposite end of the room is the dining area with a very large table with bench seating, certainly enough room for eight. This all opened to a large balcony with a table and various seating, perfect for dinner or simply for having a glass of wine and enjoying the amazing, uninterrupted mountain views. If the weather was good of course ... but if not, still a very nice place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet even during a drizzle.

Technology: Wi-fi was the weakest link in the chalet. It was fine for doing basic email and light web browsing, but was overall rather slow and tended to go out for brief periods now and again. Also, it tended to work best in the living area and not at all on the balcony. So one was pretty much forced to sit on the balcony and just have a glass of wine -- darn! A good-sized flat screen TV was available.

Cleanliness: The chalet was immaculately clean and in excellent condition. Almost everything seemed as if we were the first to ever use them.

Security: Wengen of course has to be one of the safest spots imaginable. Still entry into the ground level of the chalet always required key access, as did the penthouse itself.

Manager: The apartment is managed by Alpine Holiday Services. Booking and payment went smoothly and as expected. All communication is with Rachel Padley, one of two sisters who owns AHS, and who is responsive to questions. She met us at her office near the train station upon arrival. Rachel gave us an overview of things to do, where to eat, etc. and organized a taxi to take us up to the chalet. (You may be tempted to walk it as we considered, hauling your luggage, but don't do it.) We even stopped by her office later in our stay to get advice, which she readily gave. AHS was very good to work with.
