“Swiss Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2010

If you are looking for an awe-inspiring vacation, head to the Swiss Alps. We traveled in mid-June from Geneva via trains with stopping points in Lausanne, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen and finally to Murren via alpine lift. Each stop brought us closer to the most spectactular views. Murren was a piece of heaven - we stayed at Hotel Bellevue and since it was our 20th wedding anniversary, we were treated to an upgrade to a suite with our own lawn/patio area - directly across the valley from the snow-capped alps. Almost felt that you could reach out and touch them. The area offered numerous trails. We walked through fields of spring flowers, through cow pastures, and even encountering up close the bell-wearing cows. What a beautiful sound of their bells echoing in the valleys. On one of the trails there was a family farm that sold cheese, fresh milkshakes...and beer. I didn't say you had to be in shape - but the hiking did burn lots of calories. It is a vacation you will not forget!

“Murren would have to rate as one of the best places in the world.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 December 2009

Murren is the most wonderful, magical Swiss mountain village. It not only has some of the best scenery in the world, it has wonderful people and places to stay and eat at. If you're visiting, you must eat the food at Pension Sonnenberg (you can also stay there, see my hotel review). Steve is an amazing cook, and the ambience if just fabulous - summer or winter. In Summer hike up; in winter take the funicular and sled or ski down to the Sonnenberg, in the beautiful little valley above Murren. I can't rate him and it highly enough.
You can also try Pasci's up at the Allmendhubel, the top of the funicular. Pasci is another great guy, delivering traditional Swiss food with flair.

“Ski holiday in switzerland”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2008

Travelled from Dublin to Zurich airport and took the train from the Airport to Zurich HP,changed trains and travelled on to Bern, changed at Bern to Interlacken Ost and then on to Lauterbrunnen, which is where we based ourselves for a family ski holiday in Murren. Our hotel was very cosy and homely and we had a dinner every evening in the restaurant and found the food to be very good.
The scenery is spectacular and the cable car up to Grutscalp and the small train on to Murren is beautifull. Our 2 daughters took to the skiing very well however we found it difficult enough.
It cost us 160 CHF for a private family sking lesson for 2 hours.
We took a trip up to the Shilthorn and had some lunch in the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant. It was -14 degrees. The James Bond movie On Your Majesty's Secret Service was partly filmed here.
Well worth the trip on a fine day.
