You can combine seeing the Giessbach waterfalls with a paddlesteamer trip on the lake, a short trip on the funicular and a drink, meal or overnight stay at the classy historic Grand Hotel. We went on the funicular and were treated to a travelling group yodelling! Wunderbar! The waterfall is spectacular and you walk through pretty woodlands to various viewing spots and you can walk under the falls at one point. There is a lovely view of the falls from the hotel terrace and a view across the lake. Pretty stunning. We drove there and it is a pleasant drive up from the lake.

Having driven around Switzerland over the past week looking for great scenery, especially that which is worth photographing, I had driven past many water falls of various sizes & styles on the mountain drive between Zermatt and Interlarken, however this by far was the most pleasing and worthwhile i stopped at and took the time to embrace its beauty.

Apart from being prepared for a slight hike to enable yourself to take in all of its majesty down through its wonderous heights, the only trap is ensuring you set your GPS for the Giessbach hotel and not township, otherwise you'll enjoy a lovely tiki-tour that goes nowhere near the falls itself.

Once you are there, you'll get to enjoy some of natures worlds best scenery with a stunning water fall that has a view of a magnificent like below and colourfully deep surrounding forestry.

There are several options how to approach the falls.
By boat then funicular.
On foot from the lakeside walk or a short drive from Interlaken.
The falls are spectacular, and you can wander to the top with views across Lake Brienzee.
The large extravagant hotel features strongly in the area, but it possible to get a cool drink and a snack at the kiosk.
Spend some hours stroilling around the falls and either walk down the path to the boat station or catch the funicular.
A good half day if you enjoy exploring.

We went on this trip on 15th May 2012 which was early season and so we were the only couple on this tour with Crystal holidays which made us feel like V.I.P."s.
This waterfall is next to Lake Brienz and is surrounded by amazing mountain scenery and woodland which adds to the attraction of the falls.
These fall are in three sections and we walked to the top section, about halfway up the falls to a section which you can walk along a man made track, actually "BEHIND" the falls, which cascade down which such force and noise, which was a truly awesome experience and thoroughly recommended if you get the chance to do it.Our rep for the trip,Nick, was very helpful and took some great photo"s of us behind the falls which we will treasure forever. We then made our way down along the path next to the falls and to a bridge which cross"s the Giessbach Falls and you can see the fall in all its splendour looking up to it and also see Lake Brienze down below .
At the bottom of the falls you have The Grand Hotel which is right on the edge of the falls and Lake Brienze and it is a truly magnificent hotel and you can stop off on your tour to have a drink and a bite to eat outside with the amazing views of the lake and the waterfalls in all its beauty. So once again,we truly recommend this waterfall especially on a good day weatherwise.

We visited Giessbach, not with the ship, but with our car and we didn't regret it. The area is beatiful, uphill, full of green. The waterfalls are nice and you can walk around and even through them... The Hotel offers the opportunity of having a coffee or a snack on their terrace where you can enjoy a beatiful view of Lake Brienz. There is a parking (of course, not free, as everywhere in Switzerland) and then a short walk through the trees.

Being in the area, don't miss this attraction as is one of the few that you don't have to pay admission fee and the nature scenery is great, with a nice hotel to relax for a while!
