Description: In Balances restaurant, Luzern, head chef Andy Fluri creates culinary masterpieces with great success. This master chef, who has been awarded 14 points by the prestigious Gault-Millau guide, takes his guests on a flight of fancy for the taste buds, with delicacies such: as cream of parmesan soup with basil Espuma and beef fillet steak carpaccio; braised veal cheeks in a truffle jus, served with a potato and onion mash and savoy bacon; or dumplings filled with chocolate and nuts, accompanied by apple mousse with sour cream and banana ice cream. All meals are prepared with only market fresh produce and everything is produced according to the season. Guests are welcomed with historic flair, which is also in keeping with modern design and makes for a stylish establishment decorated in warm, natural tones. This extraordinary ambience is even more enhanced by the terrace, which looks directly on to the Reuss, which sets the mood not only for the romantics, but for all diners, as there is a sense of being on the Venecian Grand Canal.

We ordered the 3 course business lunch which comes all together on a tray and is presented very beautifully. The food is light gourmet with a simple, straightforward menu, but very high quality ingredients and preparation. We liked that it wasn't pretentious or heavy, and that it was quick without feeling rushed. Excellent wine list as well.

In a town of expensive restaurants where so many disappoint, at least there is one that delivers a fabulous experience so you dont mind paying the money. On the two occasions I have been there for meals, the ambience, the food and the service have been super and you cannot get a better location or closer to the river in Luzern. The food is well prepared and of good quality, I enjoyed fish as well as duck liver there, as well as pieces of other peoples desserts. Oh, and a lovely mixed entree plate with a variety of tastes. This is also now on my list of preferred bars, as the drinks are good, and they provide nice little apero nibbles. Tip is that you can eat on this side from a more casual menu for a cheaper experience and I will certainly be testing that in the summer.

We stayed the weekend in the Hotel and ate 3 of our meals in the restaurant, including the tasting menu the first night and a la carte the next. Menu items are creative and original, portions are nicely sized, wine pairings are sublime. The service was very good, including offers of an extra lamb chop ( we loved them) from the chef. Would highly recommend the gouse liver brulee appetizer, the lamb chops, appetizer tasting plate, halibut and sour cream ice cream. Served the best potato au gratin on the planet to go with our meat course. Servers recommended ideal wines with every course. We could eat here again, and again, and again. Not cheap, but worth the splurge. We dined in winter; lunch or dinner on the terrace overlooking the mountains and lake is surely a wonderful experience.
