Basel's history museum has four distinct locations, and this one is worth your time. This museum site is located in a former church in the easily accessible Barfussplatz and walking distance of the Munster (the striking pink cathedral) and views of the Rhein. The collection ranges from painting to sculpture, from tapestries to weaponry; whatever your tastes, you won't be disappointed. There are small lockers inside (a one Franc refundable deposit) to stash your packs, and a small gift shop. In the afternoon there is cafe service (indoor or out), which I found more locals taking advantage than tourists. Also, just as teh museum opened, there were two musicians outside, each playing the Alp horn!
