“Great Hotel and Excellent Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2012

The rooms at Hotel D are very modern and VERY clean. The staff at the Front Desk could not have been more helpful and professional. Every question we had concerning directions, they would pull out a map and show us the route. Excellent location to historic district, shopping, restaurants, trolleys etc. I would definitely stay there again.

Dear Hotel Guest,

Thank you for having taken the time to share your experience.

The Front Desk staff felt much rewarded by your kind words and positive feedback.

We are delighted that they were able to assist you with directions and showing you how to get around.

As you have mentioned we are ideally located in the heart of Basel and right next to the old town with major shopping streets, places of interest and museums all just a short walk from the hotel.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind Regards

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel and enjoyed every one of them. The rooms are very modern and newly remodeled. Yes, they aren't small but they are fully adequate by European standards and they are so well organized that we didn't mind the size. The location was great, right near the tram stop for all sorts of lines (and you get a free tram pass with your room). Plus you could walk to the Marktplatz and other city center locations. The staff was very congenial and helped us at every step of the way. I'd stay on a higher floor because the tram does run by the hotel.

Room Tip: HIgher floor would be better.

Dear guests,

We thank you for your comment on our Tripadvisor page. We are delighted to read your many positive comments and we hope to welcome you soon!

As you have well explained in your comment, our establishment is located at the entrance of the old town with excellent acces by car or public transport.

All of our guests are offered free public transportation tickets which are valid throughout their stay at the D.

Therefore guests are able top leave their cars in one of the two public car parks located one block away from our establishment.

Furthermore, we are glad that you have enjoyed the room amenities and our services.
The D is trying its best in honoring any guests requests to fulfill in the best possible way the clients expectations.

Thank you again for your comment and please do not hesitate to come and visit us again.

Didn’t like this hotel at all.
The room was claustrophobic, the staff was neither pleasant nor helpful, and the breakfast was lousy. The only two good things: location and free wi-fi in the room. Too expensive for what you get. Stay elsewhere.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comment on Tripadvisor!

We regret that you feel that you had to write a negative review solely because your room was suposely *Claustrophobic".

Please note that the room you were staying in was a Deluxe room. It size was approximately 24 meters square, which is more than acceptable for European standards.

Furthermore, you room was equiped with a big windows facing the main street and even a window in the bathroom. Difficult to call it Claustrophobic!

On reviewing your Tripadvisor Account, I can clearly see that you have stayed in Zurich in a boutique hotel. However, you have booked a Junior Suite. These Junior Suites are sold for around 500 CHF.

For your next visit, feel free to book our Junior Suite on our high floor if you request more space. However, you will not be charged a Deluxe Room rate (more or less 200 CHF).

Concerning our staff, I am very surprised that you felt not well treated. Here, at hotel D, we are trying our very best on a daily basis to fulfill all guests needs.

Do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions.

And finally, feel free to read other guest reviews that truly reflect our property.

Thank you again for your time writting this review.

Sincerely,

Julien Baly

Modern hotel with very good facilities in an excellent location close to the Rhine and the town centre. Good for a stopover or for a couple of nights. Rooms are well equipped but on the small side. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Swiss prices though!

Our family enjoyed only one night in double executive rooms at the Hotel D as a stopover on our way home. The rooms were sparkling clean and very modern with most amenities supplied - free wifi, telephone, huge TV, air con. The bathrooms were of a good size, as were the showers and baths. Loved the automatic shades.
Only thing missing was coffee/tea making facilities, and if I have to be picky, a dish in which to put the soap so that we weren't chasing it all over the counter; but that was minor. The hotel is just across one street to the river, and a pleasant walk away from the 'old town', with lots of restaurants.
It could be noisy with the trams running all night, but we were tired enough that it didn't matter. Just bring a pair of ear plugs. All in all, a great hotel, and we wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it.

Room Tip: Corner executive double rooms were good size with two windows, one very large, and bright. But if on...
