My partner and I have just returned from an amazing three night stay at the beautiful Castello di Petroia. The castle is beautiful and all the staff are so welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the tower which is an experience that if you're physically able & not afraid of heights should not be missed. The room is in a rustic tower, you climb metal stairs to enter the lower chamber, then climb a series of spiral staircases to access the bedroom and there are more stairs from the bedroom that lead to the terrace on top of the tower where there are deck chairs on the roof and where the 360 degree views over the tops of the trees across the valley hills and distant mountains is simply breathtaking (We felt so privileged to have this view all to ourselves). There are also fantastic views across the valley from the two windows in the bedroom. We can't wait to go back and our already planning a return visit next year!

Room Tip: best views - the Tower but you'd better be steady on your feet!

Remote castle in spectacular setting. Medieval building carefully restored with rooms full of character. Food of high quality served by attentive staff. Easy access to places such as Assisi. Very enjoyable stay.

This really is a lovely old castle. We had booked one of the modern rooms called junior deluxe rooms (I'm not sure I would recommend as not consistent with the historic nature of the experience) but asked to move to a different room. The staff had the patience of saints as they happily showed us four rooms before we made up our minds. Some 5 star places could learn a lot about hospitality here. I'd also avoid the keep = tower rooms, too spooky and insect infested.
We did the truffle hunt. Even with a guide who spoke no English and a day when the truffles had all disappeared it was still a great walk and we found enough truffles, black and white, for dinner. But wear old clothes, take water and be prepared to walk and walk...
the tiramisu is to die for, and as an addict that complement is no mean feat. The four course truffle menu (that accompanies the truffle hunt) was too big and too strong in flavour - I suggest asking them to tone it down a bit.

Spectacular in all forms of the word. From the windy drive to the hilltop castle to the stunning views once there everything about Castello di Peoria is fairytale like. The actual castle is like a little town. Our room was immaculate and set over two floors with a jacuzzi on the ground floor. Special mention to the waiter. He was super attentive, friendly and professional. We only stayed one night, which was enough although it would have been fun to explore the grounds more.

Exceptional location, views and staff. Looked after from start to finish and cannot thank everyone enough for such a wonderful weekend. The views are exceptional and easy access to the local towns. The castle is like a fairytale castle and the rooms are surprisingly warm and cosy considering!
