We stayed one night in early July in a room on the first floor above the ground floor. Our two biggest challenges were getting there and the lack of air flow on a hot day. Thanks to other reviewers, we knew to take the bus from the train station and get off at the “first” stop. It goes by several names, which is confusing, but it was the correct stop. (Porta San Pietro; Parking/Piazza Giovanni Paolo II; Parking #A; and Uni…??) From the bus stop, go through the Porta – gate to the city and ask for the street. It is slightly to the left and uphill. Our challenge was pulling our suitcases up the steep street (about 5-7 stories up). If you are over 40, and not in excellent shape, either take a taxi or stay elsewhere. We are older. Again, other Trip Advisor reviewers helped with finding the hotel. The entrance is indeed up ½ flight of stairs to the left, but there is a sign on the corner and their garage is signed.
The room and bathroom were clean, but small. There was no A/C, and although the day was cool enough to be comfortable when touring, after the walk uphill, we were hot, tired, and sweaty. The desk clerk pulled a fan out of the closet. After 40 minutes in front of the fan, we dressed and went out to explore the town. As mentioned above, the room was stuffy and the air did not flow well from the open bathroom window to the open bedroom window. However, the view was fabulous, looking over the countryside! The older night clerk was very friendly, the young daytime clerk was rather unapproachable. Breakfast was okay. She pretty much served you what you were to eat. We would not stay again.

Gabriella makes staying at her hotel memorable. She is rightfully proud of her establishment as part of the historic buildings of Assisi. It is important for me to stay inside the city walls and so centrally located. I am amazed that these rooms are kept within the guidelines of these ancient buildings while updating them enough to make them convenient for today's visitors. We found the rooms tastefully decorated and appreciated the safe and mini bar. Breakfast was typical and graciously offered. Wifi was easily connected outside my room, but then stayed connected back in the room. The views were outstanding. Thank you Gabriella for your touring advice and restaurant suggestions. Both were great.

While in Assisi in late February 2014, we stayed one night in the Hotel Hermitage, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived at check-in, we were made to feel like special guests. The staff was very helpful, and we were given a map of the town and given ideas as to how to maximize our time, to see the best things in town and best food to enjoy. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was available right when we were ready. Not to mention that Assisi is an incredibly beautiful town with a lot to see, and the Hotel Hermitage is ideally located right in the center of town, with ease of navigation to all major attractions. Plus, our room (Verdi) had a good view of the Umbrian countryside below the town. When we go back to Assisi, we will definitely be staying at the Hotel Hermitage again.

Room tip: There doesn't seem to be a bad room at this hotel.

We spent five nights at Hotel Hermitage in February and enjoyed our stay. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We were given great suggestions for restaurants and the sights we wanted to see. Our room and bathroom were spacious and very clean and the breakfast was very good. We did not get wifi in our room but were able to get it in the breakfast or lounge area which was just as good. We got to know the staff very well after five days and were sad to leave!

We stayed here in February for 5 nights to visit family. It is a very warm place with a cozy, home-like atmosphere, not far from the Basilica. Gabriella would greet us every evening and was always very reassuring and congenial [her English was a lot better than our Italian!!!]. Barbara [or Babs] would be ready with breakfast every morning with a smiling, pleasant demeanor. This set the tone for each of our days in Assisi, and her amazing cappuccinos didn't hurt, either! The rooms were cozy and our room's bathroom even featured a heated floor which came in handy on those damp Umbrian days. Our room, Verdi, was on the main floor and we did manage to get a view over some of the Umbrian countryside. If you want more of a view, then request a room on the 1st, as opposed to the main, floor. Keep in mind that the hotel's front door is not on a street but on a stairway that runs between 2 streets. Assisi is built entirely on a hillside so the location is an ideal introduction to walking up and down the hills that make this town enchanting.
