Description: In the Piazza Del Comune, right in front of the Temple of Minerva, you pass an arch known as “Volta Pinta” with the marvellous grotesques painted by Raffaellino Del Colle in the sixteenth century. Trattoria Pallotta is discretely set apart, at the end.The simple decor will make you feel the familial warmth. Before being seated at your table, ask to visit the cellar that was discovered during the renovation works. Here you will find many regional labels as well as a small selection of national wines, some of which are served by the glass.Margherita looks after the preparation of the meals, using prime local produce and will always offer you new seasonal dishes, staying faithful to the tradition.

The atmosphere is nice and the food was very good. We enjoyed the fixed price menu, which had good options for us, and was tons of food. The pasta was very good - some of the best we had in Italy.

Suggest getting a reservation. We got one around 3pm for later that night with no problem, but it was packed out the entire time we were there.

We are used to dining in Italy and leisurely service, but people who came 30 minutes after us had their orders taken and had their food before us. My wife's dinner came 5 minutes after the other three had been served. Once they arrived, the pasta dishes and pork were very good. The salad dish and the cooked vegetable side dishes were not the ones we ordered even though we pointed to them on the menu and the server repeated the order.

Good food (the pigeon was excellent) overall but slightly disappointing signature pasta dish - stronghozzi. The sweet bean soup however was delicious. Great tiramisu. Cute little wine cellar - ask to go down.

After touring the Basilica and other sites in Assisi, we came to dinner here, as recommended by our B&B hostess Alessandra (Attico B&B, see separate review).

They offered a Menu Degustazione, (details available on their website), and it was simply phenomenal - every course exquisite, and delicious. We also ordered a bottle of Montefalco Sagrantino, and that was also amazing. (They also offer a separate multiple-wines tasting, but we thought that was too much for us at the end of a day!)

Service was great, location was charming and convenient and romantic. We wish we could go there every week!

First of all, you need a reservation. There was a long line of people in front of us trying to check in. They were all turned away, as they didn't have reservations. Our travel agent told us about this place. It was easily the best food we have had in Italy. And we had great service! All three of us had different dishes, and we all thought we had ordered the best. I don't see how Italians can eat so much and not gain weight, but I guess because they walk so much and the food isn't processed! The prices were reasonable, and the portions large.
