FYI the Biblioteca Piccolomini is located in siena catherdral. So if you want to visit you must buy a ticket. Also worth noting is that when the catherdral is busy its easy to miss. We missed the sign due to the queue standing infront of it. And its a very small room, so its not obvious and I'm sure most people don't bother queue the 2-3 minutes to see it. But it is worth seeing for sure.

The Piccolomini Library inside the Siena Cathedral is really something to see. Gorgeous frescoes and ceiling. Also old choir books surround the room. Siena is a smaller city so you won't have to wait so long to get inside and won't need a skip the line ticket. We went inside when it opened at 10:30 and did not have a wait. We only had time to tour the cathedral (including the library), but it only cost us 5 euros. There is also a museum, a roof top view, etc. which was to cost 8 euros. You have to climb steps at the back of the Plaza to find the cathedral. Siena is the place the Palio horse races take place twice a year. Would be quite a spectacle, but also very crowded if you chose to visit then.

This is one small room in this gorgeous Cathedral, and you could easily walk by if you did not realize it was there. Apparently this room was closed off for hundreds of years, so the frescoes were not exposed to candles, people, etc. So when it was finally opened for view, the colors remained bright and beautiful. Worth researching a little in the guidebook so you know exactly the importance of this amazing room!

you can see everything from the door way, it is just 20 or so large print books behind glass.
The walls and ceiling are well painted
