“Breathtaking frescoes”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

In a small annex to the Duomo (Cathedral), you will have the pleasure of discovering the breathtaking 16thc. frescoes that represent 10 episodes in the life of Pope Pius XII, originally from the Piccolomini family (hence the name).

“Vivid Views of 15th Century Life”
Reviewed 11 November 2011

The Piccolomini Library is a surprise bonus to the already fantastic experience of visiting the Duomo as it is part fo the Duomo. The library was started in 1492 and shows the life of Siena's pope, Aeneas Piccolomini in vivid frescos that look like they could have been done yesterday. The ceiling is rich and wonderful and under the frescos are richly illuminated books that also look fresh. You will probably have to wait in line to get in, b ut it is well worth the wait as this in not your ordinary library and a must-see.

“most beautiful spot of all the city”
Reviewed 24 October 2011

the atmosphere is unique, great frescoes and a nice exhibit of old books. Unfortunately there is a strange card asking you not to explain things inside the biblioteca... weird
