It was a real treat staying at Villa Caprera. It is very tastefully & sympathetically furnished and decorated. It is in an ideal base for visiting Siena and other nearby towns. If you just want to spend the day in Siena town then I suggest getting the bus at the top of the road and a taxi back - the taxi service is very good and not too expensive. Shops for basics are just a very short drive and a really lovely deli just up the road that provides all the ingredients you need for a nice home cooked meal, as well as basics. The apartment is in a nice little secluded spot with lovely views and gardens, however there is a lot of traffic noise from nearby autostrada - so not quite as tranquil as we had hoped. The owners were very helpful and we were greeted with a nice bottle of wine, home-made cake and lovely fresh coffee. If you do decided to hire a car and explore the area the I would recommend taking a sat-nav, if for no other reason than to negotiate your way out of and around Siena. I would highly recommend a visit to Montepulciano. I little word of advice about staying in the apartment - don't walk in and switch on every light and electrical appliances as the electricity supply can not cope with it - hence the reason we had a power cut 5 mins into our arrival.
Staying at Villa Caprera Casa Borgianni was one of the highlights of our holiday in Italy and easily the best rental we've had in Italy. The buildings are steeped in character but the interior has been stylishly renovated and decorated, with every amenity supplied.
The property is spacious and comfortable and would easily accommodate 6 people. It is well positioned a 5 minute drive from Siena, with ample parking, and yet surrounded by beautiful gardens, olive groves etc. The views from all windows are wonderful.
All of this was topped off by the delightful Daniella, who greeted us with a delicious fig tart and a bottle of wine.
I can heartily recommend this property.
Thank you Simona and Daniella for a wonderful stay.
We absolutely loved our stay at this historic villa. Booking was very easy via email. The owner is an architect who has lovingly restored this villa. We stayed on the top floor. The place was spotless, decorated very tastefully and had killer views! Everything was top of the line from the linens to the dishes. The bathrooms were very nice with plenty of storage space and great showers! There were fresh flowers, coffee, and a bottle of local wine waiting for us when we arrived. There are several other villas on the property, which makes it a charming little neighborhood. A monastery is right up the hill and the bells rang every 30 minutes. There were roosters crowing, olive trees, and the Siena skyline in the distance. We ate at a very cute little restaurant within walking distance-delicious! There is a small grocery store close by which makes its own salami. The setting could not have been more perfect.
Three small complaints....1. the directions we were given by the landlord were assuming that our GPS could locate the village of Costafabbri, which is where the villa is located- 3 km from Siena. Our GPS could not locate it so we spent about 35 minutes driving in circles until finally asking for directions from a hotel close by. Directions from downtown Siena would have been more helpful.
2, We specifically searched for properties that had air conditioning and actually turned down a couple of other places due to a lack of A/C. This property advertised that it had air conditioning and technically it does. However...there are only two small wall units in two of the bedrooms (not the master strangely enough) and they DID NOT work. The air coming from the vent was not cold and did absolutely nothing to cool the place down. We visited in the heat of August so it was quite uncomfortable a couple of nights. Once the sun went down we would open all of the windows (no screens, but no mosquitos either) and it would be more comfortable. This would be the perfect spot any other time of the year but we were disappointed in the lack of cool air.
3. The Wi-Fi was super slow but we didn't really care.
Overall, this was an absolutely fabulous place to spend a week in Tuscany. It was close to the main roads, centrally located for touring hill towns nearby and looked like something right out of a movie set! I would stay here again!
