I stayed here two years ago and knew I'd be returning this time so booked ahead (last time it was last minute).
They were very accommodating and helpful.
It's a little tricky meeting up with them because they run a tabbacheria nearby and you have to coordinate meeting with someone from there to get into the hotel. Depends on who you reach by phone --some speak English but others only a small amount. But once you get set up in the place it's fine.
Internet is so-so--in the breakfast area it works best but isn't particularly reliable. Good location, nice and quiet, nice bathroom, beautiful view of Chianti from the window.

Stayed for 3 nights Sept 2014 - have been to SG before and aware how busy it is during the day. We had a fab balcony in our room and found the staff very helpful. Would stay again.
The walk up from car park one takes about 10 mins and might be handier parking closer initially if you have a lot of bags

Given that San Gimignano is the most popular and quaint Tuscan city, this guesthouse is definitely the most value-for-money option you will have! Situated inside San Gimignano walls and close to San Giovanni, the main road of the city, Palazzo Torrione has nice, comfortable, clean and well-decorated rooms. The check-in might be a little tricky, as the owner works in a tobacco shop and you have to go there in order to let her know. You will be sent an e-mail after booking, with all the necessary instructions, so don't worry about that. Since she speaks no english, she usually has her son walk you back to the hotel and show you your room. There is a kitchen area, with 4 tables, where you will have breakfast served and where you can have access to WiFi (not functioning inside the rooms). The rooms are on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator, so give it a second thought, if you carry a lot of luggage with you. If you arrive by car, there is a close public parking spot (parking Montemaggio), outside the walls of the city (200m walking distance), but in day time, it is usually full. Given its price, Palazzo Torrione is your best place to stay in San Gimignano and use it as a base for a Tuscany exploration!

We arrived in SG last Nov 12, spending 2 nights in SG. The owner had her son to pick us up at the front gate. We were 3 ladies that had some 6 luggage and we actually expected the son to help us with the heavier one- guess what?- he just took the smallest roller bag and had us lagged behind with the rest- led us to the apartment which was some 100m away and up the stairs as our room was on the 3rd floor. The whole time, he was on cellphone without the courtesy of helping us with the rest of the bags when he has done with the first.
I called that poor porter service. Ad we had to go down and to another apartment to check in. The whole time take us some time before we got settled.

Room tip: Top floor facing the field

was able to get a last-minute reservation, wasn't sure what to expect as I was meeting the owner at their tabacchi shop, they're never my go-to destination LOL. But she was lovely, the room was pretty and warm and welcoming, had everything I needed, great bathroom, lovely dining area. It's really nice to stay within the walls of San Gimignano because eventually the throngs of tourists leave and the town is serene.

Room tip: wifi works better in some places than others with their two buildings so if that matters to you be sure to ask for one that has better wifi. Mine worked in the dining area but not the room.
