“Five Star Hotel!!”
Reviewed 23 March 2012

This was our last stay in Italy. This is a wonderful hotel. The staff is very professional and effecient. Our questions were answered quickly and accurately. We were conveniently located to the University and the Duomo and Tower. We stayed in to dine at the hotel because we were busy preparing for a very early flight the next morning. Our meal was one of the best meal while in Italy! What a wonderful surprise! We were also given "breakfast bags" to take to the airport with us so that we wouldn't miss a meal. This is a very "international" hotel. We met travelers from Germany, England, and Australia.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend break to Pisa. The hotel is located 15 mins from the main sights of Pisa - the tower, cathedral and baptistery. However, a good walk to any decent restaurants within the city centre, although there was a pizza place (which we tried and was average) and also a Chinese restaurant further up the road. So I did feel if I visited again I would book a hotel within the city centre area. The hotel, is, however, not far from San Rossore Station, where you can catch a train to Lucca - highly recommended and there is a large supermarket PAM next to the Station, where we bought two bottles of Lemoncello very cheaply and also some other bits and pieces.

We were greeted at reception by a friendly lady and although we arrived very early, the hotel was quite happy to look after our luggage whilst we went to see the sights. If you get the guy at reception, it is a different matter - someone needs to give him some lessons on reception duties and smiling as we found him very miserable and unhelpful. He also charged us more for the room when checking out than what had been agreed with the booking company - something I didn't realise until later - so be warned.

As other reviewers have stated, the hotel room was fairly small with a good clean bathroom, pretty good shower and clean white towels. However, I noted that the minibar had no prices shown whatsoever and there were just a couple of plastic cups given if you chose to drink anything. Houskeeping also 'forgot' to replenish toilet rolls the next day.

There was a wide variety for breakfast - yoghurts, fruit, cereals, break, croissants, jams, cakes and hot food - scrambled eggs, frankfurter sausages and bacon, as well as coffee and fruit juices. Tables were cleared pretty quickly and the guy in charge of the restaurant seemed to ensure everything was replenished well.

Compared to other four star hotels I have stayed at, this definitely doesn't rate on the same scale and I would class it more a 3 or 3.5 star!

We had booked another hotel but didn't go there because they had no car park. We judged this hotel from its outside appearance and chose to stay there. The car park was excellent. We checked in and went to our room and was shocked to see how small it was. They had no duvets and the internet was only available with cable. Breakfast was fine. Don't be fooled from the reviews and the looks of the building from the outside, its only an average hotel.

We have stayed at the Bonanno several times, either at the beginning or the end of holidays in Tuscany, as it is so near Pisa airport. It is quite a large and impersonal hotel and, whilst I wouldn't wish to stay here for any length of time, it is fine for a night or two. The rooms we have stayed in have always been clean and are a decent size. Similarly, the staff we've encountered have always been professional and the reception staff speak fluent English. The hotel serves an extensive hot and cold breakfast. Some reviewers have mentioned the location and although it is correct that the hotel is on a roadside and you need to walk through an underpass to get into town, this has never been a problem for us and we have never been disturbed by traffic (or any other) noise. The hotel is located in a fairly middle class area and the underpass is lit and is safe.

The Bonnano is a short walk away from the Leaning Tower. Whilst this is well worth seeing, the area immediately around the Piazza dei Miracoli is overrun with market/street traders selling tacky wares. This area also has an abundance of awful restaurants vying for the tourist trade. Walk further towards the town, however, and you will find plenty of decent places to eat.

Room Tip: As with most other large hotels, try to avoid a room near the lifts.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Grand Hotel Bonanno for 2 weeks in October 2011. Could not fault the hotel or staff who were always helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent for train stations 5 min walk to San Rossaro and 20mins to Central or 5 mins on a bus. The breakfast was very good with plenty choice, we only ate twice in the resturant in the evening and it was also very good. Excellent Pizza resturant 5 mins walk away called Pisakech.
Would recommend and would definately stay again

Room Tip: We had a room at the back and it was very quiet
