We stumbled on this quaint hotel in the countryside in a village and had the Most Extraordinary stay. ALL I CAN SAY IS - IF YOU CAN GET A RESERVATION - STAY HERE !!!!!
The family that run this hotel are amazing; just a little about them. The original owners were a mother & father (Clorinda & Romano) and understand ran it for years till Romano's passing in 2010. The Son Gianni (Johnny) and his wife Giussepina (I think thats how you spell it) although everyone just calls her Guissy (Juicy) are the sweetest couple you will ever meet. It is family run - so don't expect a Marriot or Sheraton, so there will be hiccups. They will do whatever it takes to make your stay as memorable as can be done, AND the food coming from the kitchen is Excellent and ALL fresh made.
The hotel is situated in a village of about 400 (in the summer it grows to about 1000; it seems with Italian tourist) and has 2 churches, bakery, 4 small grocery and assundry stores (yep four (4) stores - 1 for every 100 people) that have ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you will ever need or want. The people in the village will talk to you even though you don't understand them, and will act like they have known you all your lives. There is Daniela in the Bakery store, Guissy in the little Botega (not the same girl at the hotel) and Anna in the Piccolo Mercato (Little Market) and Lorenzina in another little store across from Guissy's. Then there is the Bar in the Hotel, and 2 other bars as well. There is hiking, horseback riding, biking, swimming, Relaxing and shopping at all the weekly mercatos. All I can say is GIVE IT A TRY.

Room Tip: Get room with View of Valley

I had my second stay at this hotel in September 2009. I had stayed her on a previous trip 5 years ago. I have a friend who's family live in Corfino and I was there for an anniversary party and Christening with a big group of friends. I love Corfino and the Hotel California. While not fancy it is amazing value for money and in a beautiful location in the Tuscan Hills with great staff, food and swimming pool (this is a recent addition and really adds to the appeal of the hotel). The views are lovely too. It's in a very peaceful setting and a perfect place to relax. I'm sure I will visit again some day.

This hotel name leads to confusion since Hotel Californias are everywhere. Many reviews on this hotel say it's in Positano. I have stayed at the Hotel California in Positano, in Todo Santos, Mexico, and in Corfino (Lucca Province), Italy. Corfino is a Tuscan hilltown about 35 miles N of Lucca, Italy. It is great for biking and hiking and a good location for sightseeing Tuscany. The hotel "Albergo California" is run by an Italian family who lived in California for years. Good english is spoken. The hotel is very clean and modern with ample safe and free parking. The hotel has a full bar and also a large restaurant with panoramic views. The hotel is open from May to November and room plans can be room only for about 50-60 euros or several meal plans with all meals included for about 100 euros (room, not per person). I have stayed at this hotel several times and love it. The giant pool is wonderful in summer. This is the true Italy!! Hunt porcini mushrooms or collect and roast chestnuts. The small village has a bakery, gift shop, markets, bars and about 400 residents.
