The relaxing atmosphere, the meandering river, the warn stone steps leading up to the rooms...we truly enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of La Martellina.
Claudio was helpful, welcoming and spoke english! The room and bed were comfortable and clean, with a beautiful view of the olive trees. Breakfast was a feast of flavours! I couldn’t believe I ate olives for breakfast – and none like I’ve tried before! No need for a car, the local bus station was right up the road with a schedule for the short wait into Florence. And thanks for letting us know about the Truffle Festival - it was wonderful

My partner and I found this place on Trip Advisor and thought it looked perfect for our 4 night stay to visit Florence and the surrounding areas. Upon booking, Claudio contacted us with details of how to get to the B&B via public transport, which was most helpful, as we were getting to Florence by train. The 14A bus runs frequently from the train station so we had no problem jumping on this bus to the B&B as we arrived. The B&B is the last stop of the journey and then a straight road down to the gate, so it is quite easy to find.

Claudio was very welcoming and showed us to our room and the grounds. We had the Olivo room and therefore had to share a bathroom with the residents next door. This was not an issue for the first 2 days but we did cross paths with a couple on the last 2 days. This wasn't particularly an issue, however. The bedroom was perfect, the window can be left open all day and night with the cover over the window preventing any bugs flying in. There is a fan in the room also which was needed as there isn't air con. Towels were also provided.

We only managed to get down to breakfast one of the mornings due to a tight sightseeing schedule but we appreciated the effort Claudio put in to make the guests breakfast. This was also a good way of meeting the other guests in the B&B who come from all over the world. A problem we did have was one night when we brought a bottle of wine home, we were unable to find a corkscrew and could not have the wine until the day after when we bought our own. So be prepared if you are going to do the same! The couple there at the same time as us had the same problem.

The surroundings were amazing, with the view of the Arno all the way down. The garden is great for relaxing in after a long day.

I was initially worried about findin this place via public transport but it was very easy with the help of Claudio's maps and bus timetables he provided. The B&B was exactly what we needed for our trip to Florence and would recommend it to anyone looking to visit the city. We would definitely return! Thanks Claudio & hope the dogs are well.

My husband found this delightful B & B by doing some research. It's in a peaceful location along the river Arno. Parking is limited but is enough however once we'd arrived we didn’t need the car. Just up the road you can catch the bus to Florence. They run very frequently. Claudio who runs the B & B is a very jovial character who clearly loves his two dogs. They're friendly but haven't learnt that over breakfast they are not needed. Our room was in the tower. It's very old, 13th century and full of interesting features with a narrow round staircase up to the room. My husband managed our cases up there but it's not easy. I'm sure Claudio would help if required. The bathroom with shower etc is modern and is excellent. The best part of our stay was the breakfast. A very good selection of breads, jam and savoury meats. There was yogurt and fresh fruit which is perfect for me. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: This is a peaceful location. Anyone who is not agile should avoid the Tower Room as the access isn...

One of the most unusual B&Bs we have come across. The mill, around which the house is built, dates from the 13th century and is attractively furnished in an old style. A very comfortable bed, in which you will be lulled to sleep by the Arno rushing over the weir. An ample breakfast is served from 8:30. The polyglot landlord is very friendly, and knowledgable about Florence and the surrounding countryside. His two dogs will also make friends with you. There is a lovely garden with tables and easy-chairs, and ample car-parking space. In the summer, it is also possible to go for a dip in the river. We would not hesitate to come back here when we next visit Tuscany.
Just one word of clarification: La Martellina is not actually in the hillside town of Fiesole: the small settlement of San Jacopo, part of the administrative district of Fiesole, is closer to Florence.

Room Tip: We enjoyed staying in the "Salcio", with en-suite facilities (and space for an extra small...
