“Perfect Location in the Oltarno”

We loved this apartment, thought it was a great deal and a perfect location. Thanks to Fabrizio and his family for being such gracious hosts (we had a wonderful meal at their Osteria Toscanella as well). Yes, there are stairs, yes, its an old palazzo and the furniture is vintage and antique... all positives for us. Beds and linens very good. Super comfortable, with good central heating and loads of space. Excellent tub with on demand hot water as well. In addition to being located on a very narrow quiet street, the many windows face an interior courtyard making this a very quiet location - Also my favorite neighborhood in Firenze, out of the tourist madness and lots of great shops and restaurants. Thank You Fabrizio for getting up so early to help us with the taxi and for sharing your lovely loft with us! We would stay here again in a heartbeat. If you're looking for super modern luxury you might stay elsewhere, but this is a comfortable family home with character and charm.

“BEWARE!”

The apartment is in what remains of a15th century castle which explains the quirkiness of the floor plan. To get to the apartment one must traverse 3 flights of relatively steep stairs. Once inside the apartment you have several step up to the main bathroom then several more steps to the kitchen and then finally several more steps to the living/dinning room. Two of the bedrooms are lofts off the living room, so more steps. There is a two piece bathroom on the main floor along with a bedroom. There is one decent bed in one of the lofts. However the remaining 4 twin beds are cots (2 in the other loft and 2 in the main floor bedroom). A plus was the sheets. They were clean and crisp. The living room furniture was old, very worn and did not appear to be very clean. The apartment needed a good cleaning and some repair especially in the main floor bathroom and the kitchen. There are NO closets in the apartment. The lofts were hot and stuffy in spite of the air-conditioning.

Our stay was for 4 nights. We stayed one night and opted to leave for a hotel in spite of the extra cost (we received no refund for any part of the remaining 3 nights).

It's really really true! The forniture is all very very old. In fact there are two original armchairs manufactured in 1500(500 years old), an original fireplace of 1500 ( also 500 years old ) a Deco group of walnut mahogany armchairs , sofa and pouf (almost 100 years old) a group of chairs and sofa manufactured in the beginning of 1800( 200 years old), a "relatively young group" composed by table, chairs and lamp designed in 1960 by Gae Aulenti ( Marble Architectural Award 2007, architect of Gare D'Orsay in Paris and Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and curator of the museum of Modern Art in Paris, Centre Georges Pompidou )
Sorry but if these are the forniture considered too old and that you suggest to change , we tell you "no thanks we prefer don't do it".
But we hope that our guests would be able to understand and appreciate that we share with them antiques of such great value!
When you left, also without say anything, my father and my mother have carefully checked the temperature in the loft to decide, if air conditioners were fault, to refound you.
It was 19 degree Celsius ( the thermometers from cold rooms of our restaurant are very accurate) so we decided we would be in default if the guest was the Polar Bear.
Italy is a South Europe ancient country with many very old building, old monuments, old forniture but the air conditioning units are new!
Let's me give you some numbers:
1mt per 2 mt the real size of each ""cot" in the apartment
8 the number of the doors of the wardrobe present in the apartment (if you have really look for it!)
1 the elevator by which we go with the guests' luggages at the apartment
4 the hours that each time my cleaning ladies spend in the apartment to clean it accurately before the arrive of the guests
347 the median days per year that this apartment is been booked from 2012
287 the reviews
3 (with yours) the negative reviews from 2012 to today (incredible but true all for the antiques and the ancient house!!!)
I apologize for my imperfect English
greetings

Maria Luisa

“Cool artists loft”

As the third of 3 rented apartments and the first one booked we weren't sure if we were pushing our luck, but it looks the way it appears, great.
On the Oltrano side of the Ponte Vecchio( 2minutes max) and just behind the Pitti Palace,( teenagers loved booking Segways for an hour from here) it would be hard to find a more central yet out of the main tourist crush place. All the details, maps, transport directions down to "asking for Fabrizio in the Osteria downstairs" as we were late, couldn't have been more helpful or more straight forward. Fabrizio by the way is a charming debonaire gentleman, worldly and artistic, ready to help with any advice and as fabulous as his pad!
The apartment is up 2 flights of good stairs and we had one person in a leg brace from skiing, though this was n't a problem there are more stairs inside.
The apartment looked much as it does in the photos, artistic rustic Italian loft( would make a brilliant studio), terra cotta floors, high ceilings and lovely tall french windows opening up to look over a private Maroccan courtyard. Its not plush but full of character and big with 2 loft bedrooms plus one other for the snorer!
Brilliant location, 5 minutes walk to 2 bridges and the Pitti and a swarm of truly inexpensive, local home cooked bistros and bars and cafes, 2 must inexpensive places (best food of the whole trip) were Lo Sprone, around the corner on Via della Sprone and Vini Vecchi Sapori (book)just left down the alley next to the Gucci museum- under 60 euros for 4 and quality to die for. Enjoy a real artists loft in the coolest part of town.
