“Basic but good budget alternative”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

Usually prefer to stay at hotels with four stars (or more), but without the kids, travelling with friends I am not very fussy. This is a nice basic hotel (that more resembles a hostel) - clean and with good service. About ten minutes walk to the Duomo - not the most central location but not off either. For the modest price it is great.

My wife and I just got back from Florence. We stayed at this charming hotel for three nights for a long weekend and had a great time. It is located ideally in central Florence; 15 min. walk from the train station, 5 min. from Duomo, 10 min. from Uffizi gallery, and 15 min. from Ponte Vecchio. Academy of Fine Arts (where the real David sculpture is located) is only just around the corner. In four days that we stayed in Florence we walked everywhere and enjoyed the beautiful weather. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and they all spoke good English (with addition of few other languages). They know Florence and the whole region very well and can recommend good restaurants, galleries, ice cream places, nice walking routes, and some real gems of the city which you normally won't find in your usual tour guide book. Our room was spacious, and had a balcony with amazing views of Florence. Both, the room and the bathroom were extra clean with all new furnishings. The room was equipped with air conditioning and LCD TV, and free wi-fi connection is available. We used wi-fi and it worked perfectly. The bed mattress was very comfortable and we had a good night sleep during our stay. The street where the hotel is located is quiet and soundproofing of the windows is great so you don't hear any outside noise. The breakfast room is located on the fourth floor and has a balcony that offers a great view of the central Florence. Breakfast is typical European with choice of hams, cheese, fruit yoghurts, pastries, cereals, jams etc.
Overall we enjoyed our stay in Hotel Panorama and would highly recommend it. Room rates are affordable and provide great value for the money. A big thank you to all staff for making our holiday wonderful.

great value in Florence. Cute rooms, with a charming breakfast, and decent location in the city. 24-hour reception was very helpful in answering all of our questions and made us feel at home and taken care of.

The rooms were clean and kept and we enjoyed our time at this hotel.

Hotel Panorama is a very quiet hotel situated in a residential area of Florence. This gives it a very quiet and homely feel. The hotel is run by a family and they are the sweetest people you can find.
LOCATION : It is located a short walk from florence train station or you can take a cab which should cost about 10-15 EUR at most. It is very close (3-5 min walk) to the main square and the Duomo. In fact you can see the dome of the Duomo from the hotel terrace.it also surrounded by several restaurants and cafe's of all types and tastes and budgets.it is also located close to all major tourist attractions( except the statue of David on the hill)
Although distances are not far in Florence there is a bus stop right outside the hotel from where u can take various buses, but its much nicer to take leisurely walks in this beautiful town.
Price : The hotel is not very highly priced but is very good value for money. It has everything u need. If u are a travelling by yourself or with family it is very good but if you are looking for a romantic getaway...maybe you should look a bit closer to the river( of course these hotels are more expensive)

Rooms and amenities : The rooms are very spacious and nice with old-world furnishings. although some rooms have modern decorations but its not consistent. My room had a large balcony overlooking the back-road.You can access internet from your room( WIFI) or at a computer at the reception. There is also a host of books and guides about italy and traveling and other things which you are free to refer to. The reception area also has a small cafe and the espressos and capuccinos are as authentic ITALIAN as you can get ! The building has a small elevator as well which is very convenient for luggage and also when you come back after walking around town. Each room / floor has a theme and colour and its a pretty unique way of laying out the design of the rooms. it is not something you notice on first glance but its a nice little touch to the hotel.

Service and Staff : the service and staff are quiet helpful and discreet. I lived for 2 nights and i hardly saw staff in the lobbies, but the rooms were well kept. The breakfast buffet is self-help with some assistance from ONE member of the staff, but this is only for getting the stuff to the table and keeping your own plates in the trays. The overall attitude of the owners is very good and they are extremely helpful. they even suggested a vegan restaurant for us when they found out about our preferences. The personal attention of the owners keep the hotel well running.

Breakfast : the breakfast is included in the room rate and is quite OK. It is nothing to rave about and i would rather prefer everything of a better quality. The milk, cookies, cereal and everything in the buffet is from discount stores and hence it is a let down. You have FREE coffee but if you want capuccino of a good quality i suggest you rather shell out a few Euros and get a good cup at a Cafe nearby or at the hotel reception which has an excellent machine. Still it is not a HUGE issue, given that the breakfast room is located on the terrace and it has almost 360 degree view of Florence.

Conclusion: Overall this is a very decent and charming hotel and well located. The biggest advantage is the location and attention from the owners. It is a very " young " hotel due to its attractive pricing and no frills offering. Has a bunch of backpackers and young crowd always attracted to it. On the other hand, a little more attention to detail and overall improvement in quality of service( especially breakfast) will make this THE ideal hotel in Florence midtown.Definately recommended for most travellers.

Room Tip: Take the rooms with balconies. The rooms with views are not as good as they sound

Thank you for your exhaustive comment! We appreciate your comment generally very careful. Just 2 things, for accuracy sake: there are very nice view rooms and consider that the rooms with their own balcony are just 3 : 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple ( you were lucky ;) ) .
From August 2011 we have improved the breakfast service and I hope next time you can try it!
Hope to see you again,
Cristina

We spent two nights in this hotel. It takes you a 15-minute walk from the train station. The staff there is very friendly, showing us clearly on the map which tourist spots to go and where to eat. He recommends two very good restaurants to us namely Pizzaman and La Casalinga. Give them a try when you are in Florence. The room is spotless and you can enjoy free wifi in your room. Very good choice if you are on a budget.
