I was disappointed that due to a glitch I was not able to stay in Lorena. But the person at the counter was ready with information about the mix up and had already made alternate arrangements. It was not the best of rooms but I like the fact that Lorena took care of it.

Appreciate the gesture!

Great location, within walking distance to the famous duomo. I can even see it from my room window.
Hotel is a little bit old, but very clean.
Very friendly & helpful staff. I arrived early before the official check-in, they allow me to store my luggage & use the bathroom with no extra charge.
Then I went for a walk around the lovely Florence, came back & realised that they have helped us to put our luggage in our room. Very nice indeed.
The staff is helpful & always ready to give us useful advice about Florence.

We just came back from a trip to Italy, and have stayed 3 nights in this hotel in Florence.
We had chosen it after having read the very good review on this site.

We had reserved from their website, a few months ago and it went perfectly (very good rate and excellent communication).

This hotel was perfect in almost every way: very nice room, large, very quiet, bed extremely comfortable, clean room, thick windows blocking all noise from this noisy neibourhood (full of tourists), beautiful view from our room (no. 31) of the San Lorenzo cathedral. We had a small fridge too).

Extremely close to the train station, easy to find (print the instructions and map from their website). Very well situated as far as "services" are concerned (internet points all around, a grocery store, etc.)

The owners (love to) speak French and English and provide tons of advice for visits and orientation in the city. Breakfast (not included) was good - more complete than at many hotels (including hard-boiled eggs and yogurt) so we took it twice.

The only drawback for us was that it was too much in the center of the touristic area: you look out the window and all you see is mass of people walking with a map in their hands, and many "walking salesmen" on the street, offering you umbrellas, toys and all. And you don't hear much of italian spoken; with all these tourists, all you hear is English, French, German, Japanese.... So if you want to sleep in a hotel where you have a deeper "feel" of the real Firenze, I would chose one on the other side of the Arno River... in a quieter more residential area. Because of that, that's what we would do next time, even though this hotel represented a really wonderfully "practical" stay.

My husband and I just returned from an anniversary trip to hotel. Of all the hotels we stayed at while we were there, Lorena was our favorite.

All of the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. They looked up train times for us and explained how to get to all of the major attractions.

The room was a bit spartan, but good-sized and comfortable. I really appreciated the fact that there was a vanity outside of the bathroom. Our room overlooked a busy piazza. We were afraid it would be too loud, but the windows were very sound-proof.

The location is good---in between the train station and Il Duomo. You can easily walk to all of the major attractions from there. Additionally, it is right next door to a cute little wine bar, which is an added bonus.

We hope to return to Florence someday, and we will definitely return to Hotel Lorena.

Lorena is well placed, between the main railway station and the Cathedral, both 5 or 6 minutes away. But it's also in a lively and friendly neighbourhood, with a lot of students, and with launderettes (if needed), central market (very interesting), cashpoints and supermarkets close by, and a very good stationers next door.
With the windows open, (in May) there was a pleasant background noise of Italian chatter, not loud or rowdy. There was a noisy half hour just before midnight while the streets got cleaned and the cafe downstairs shut up shop, but you can shut out the noise with double glazed windows (and aircon) and most of the time the street is closed to traffic.
I was in a single room with a shared (with 1 other single room) bathroom, but this was clean and well maintained. Not having the ensuite did give a lot more space in the room.
My room faced the street and had a nice view of the cathedral, but a lot of the rooms face direct onto a little square that always had a lot of interesting activity going on. Medici Chapel is on the corner of this square.
Reception is on the 1st floor without a lift, which travellers should be aware of if they have problems carrying heavy baggage, but there is a lift from 1st floor to the rooms. You have to leave your key when you go out, but getting it was never a problem. Thanks to the closed circuit TV in the foyer, they were usually ready with your key and a smile by the time you got upstairs. You didn't even have to give them your room number. They will also look after your luggage after check-out until early evening, which is great if you want to spend more time in the city before departure.
Breakfast room is a bit small but not all guests wanted to be in at once, so it was ok. And you've got the option of getting breakfast Italian style in a good cafe bar just down the street.
A great place to stay if you want value for money in clean, simple surroundings, and prefer a small family-run hotel to a multinational clone.
