“Best Hotel for your Money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2012

I have been going back to Florence on a regular basis and have stayed in different hotels. Antica Torre di Via Tournabuoni was highly recommended by my sister. I decided to try and and boy was I really impressed. The location is just perfect ! We are in the corner of Via Tournabuoni and the road facing the Arno River. The receptionist were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Very unusual among Italians > Our room was spacious and the bathrooms too were well sized . They gave you thick towels. The view from the roof top terrace was dazzling ! On one side you are facing the Duomo and on the other side you had a birds eye view of Florence and the River Arno. I highly recommend it and will definitely return. This will be my new home in my favorite city

Room Tip: Stay on the 5th floor so you can just take the stairs to the Roof Top Terrace

I've just got round to writing this review after a stay at the end of March. I was going to say that Antica Torre was excellent and I can't wait to go back, but I see that every other reviewer has said much the same, and now I wonder if I'll ever be able to get another booking!
It's true, it is excellent. Front desk 'concierge' was so helpful, the room was delightful ( we were in the Old Tower), and the rooftop terrace was amazing.
Perhaps the most useful thing I can say ( which might mean less people try and make a booking so leaving more space for me!) is that this is absolutely NOT a full service hotel in the conventional sense. It is (as it makes clear on its website) a 'Residenza D'Epoca'...a 'historical residence'. We overheard some American guests who were clearly unhappy that there was no barman to 'fix' their Martinis before dinner ( dinner out, of course, as the Antica Torre just serves an excellent continental breakfast), were even more unhappy that there was only one type of gin available at the honesty bar and ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED that they couldn't find any olives. Come on , if you want to stay in a luxury hotel go and stay in one! But if you want to enjoy staying in a beautiful, elegant building, run by helpful and friendly staff, on the banks of the Arno, within walking distance of all you might want to see in central Florence, then try the Antica Torre!

This medieval palace, sourrounded by other historical palaces is an ideal place to stay in Florence. You are next to "everything" in a historical ambiance. The hotel is very special, our Deluxe room was spacious, very nice (even if I did not personally like the colours, but they must have been very authentic) with high ceiling, in perfect condition and very clean. The bathroom was beutiful, linen was good quality and not worn out. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but more importantly, the roof terrace is amazing for delicious breakfasts and drinks. And many of the good restaurants are just around the hotel. The personnel could not be more helpful and friendlier. Our only wish for improvement would have been the breakfast to start half an hour earlier (it started at 8.00).

A beatiful hotel just minutes walk from all the sights, restaurants and shopping. Awesome rooftop bar where they serve a fantastic breakfast every morning and fine cocktails in the evening. Our room ( The library room)was large, comfortable and very nicely decorated. Service was fantastic. The staff understood and spoke English well. I will most certainly stay here again when I return to Florence.

Our family of 4 just completed a 2-week vacation in Italy. Wonderful trip, and Florence and Antica Torre were among the highlights! We made our reservations via e-mail, and the hotel staff was very responsive. Unfortunately, I made our reservations for the wrong dates, and our family of 4 arrived at Antica Torre 1 day early. The hotel manager, Dan, could not have been nicer or more helpful. Thanks to a last-minute cancellation, he was able to find 2 rooms for us and went out of his way to make us feel welcomed. The rooms were just incredible--clean, comfortable, spacious, good a/c, beautifully-furnished, high-quality linens, etc. (To travelers from U.S.--washcloths and hair dryers as in the States. LOL!) The rooftop terrace offers incredible views, and we enjoyed a nice breakfast there each morning and wine each evening. Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful--offering good suggestions for restaurants, arranging transportation, providing ideas for shopping.

Thank you to the entire staff!

Room Tip: Our room had a terrace which was very nice. Kids' room had a great view of the Duomo.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We personally enjoy welcoming our guests, we wish to reinvent the concept of hospitality, and we have the inspiration to provide the warmth of home in every detail. This is how the Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1, Florence came to be: a tower-house built in the mid-12th century by the Guelph family of Ruggerini. At the beginning of the 20th century, this palace became "Pensione Piccioli," and quickly turned into a privileged residence for aristocrats and English writers. Closed after the Great War, Pensione Piccioli reopened in 2001, as a Period Residence called "Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1." Thanks to attentive restoration to preserve all its original charm, the evocative ambiance of the Palace on Via Tornabuoni has regained life and warmth. This magnificent complex is considered one of the typical "tower-houses" of Mediaeval Florence, and, to this day, it still preserves all its characteristic architectural elements: it is an admirable example of the human ability to convert buildings built for war into oases of peace, culture and hospitality. In this ancient tower, we have created a world of harmony, privacy, and attentiveness to our guests' needs. Luxury, peace, and beauty are all in traditional Italian style, and give the concept of comfort new aesthetics. Almost all rooms enjoy an enchanting view of the city or the Arno River, and all are furnished with the highest in comfort: satellite plasma TVs, DVD players, wireless internet connection, direct line telephone, minibar, electronic safe, air conditioning and heating, private marble bath with tub and/or shower, hair dryer, slippers and shoehorns. Some of the Rooms and Suites are decorated with a Renaissance flair: with frescoes, drapes in coloured precious fabrics, bathrooms in red Alcantara or Gold Calacatta marble, and romantic four poster beds. ... more   less
