“San Giorgio e Olimpic - Dump!”
Reviewed 31 May 2012

Please, please, do not even attempt to stay at this hotel. It is a complete and utter dump. My girlfriend and I checked into this hotel in March of 2012 only to find the room to be completely unacceptable! Stains on the bedspread, stains on the carpet, mold on the tub and shower curtain which was hanging by a metal clothes hanger (no shower just a curtain around a tub with a hand held shower head), water stains on the ceiling from a leaky roof, water stains on the walls and on the pictures on the walls, brown matter on the rug ( I can only guess what this was!). The halls getting to the rooms were so narrow we had to hold our suitcases sideways to get through. The pictures on line look nice but don't be fooled. This hotel is something out of the 1940's and hasn't been remodelled since! It is very bad, even the cab driver who picked us up said it was ' a very bad hotel..very bad". I am now fighting it out with my booking agent to get my two days cancellation fee back. Th hotel would not cooperate. If you like filth and outdated everything, this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: The Best Western's in Florence are a good choice. They are upscale and have clean, nice rooms...

We have just returned from a week at the Hotel San Giorgio in Florence. This is a spotlessly clean, rather old fashioned and very friendly little hotel perfectly situated for exploring the old city of Florence. It is located about five minutes walk from the central railway station, perfect if you are flying into /out of Pisa airport. A few minutes walk the other way and we were straight into the historic San Lorenzo district and a brilliant market. The room décor was quite basic and a bit 'tired' but spotless and the room was cleaned and serviced every day while we were out. Breakfasts were the typical continental style you expect in Italy/France/Spain etc with cold meat, cheese, eggs and bread rolls/croissants plus cereals and juice. There are loads of great little restaurants and bistros nearby so loads of choice for lunches and dinners.
We read some previous poor reviews of the hotel before we went and we have concluded that maybe those people were unrealistic about what you get for 3 stars at this price range, so just enjoy it for what it is and be realistic. We would definitely stay there again on the basis of location, cleanliness, friendliness and superb value for money.

I took my elderly disabled father to Florence and we stayed in this hotel. Most important for me was to get Dad safely around the hotel, his bedroom and bathroom. The disabled room (#107) was on the first floor, serviced by a small lift which was very close to the room. A slight step up to get into the room and then another slight step within the room. All in all it was easy to get my father around in his wheelchair. The bathroom was large and featured an open 'wet room' style shower with seat plus wc with grab bars - very easy to circulate around.
The best aspect about staying here were the staff who were always very helpful to my father and I. For example they always offered to take out a wooden ramp to the front door to help me negotiate the step leading into the hotel with a wheelchair. I rarely had to ask them to do this, they always seemed ready and prepared.
Given that the hotel was so close to the railway station meaning an easy transfer (no more than an easy 10 minute) when one has a wheelchair plus luggage, the helpfulness of the staff and suitability of the disabled room I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to the disabled traveller who has a carer (who is able to negotiate a couple of small step ups pushing a wheelchair - a 2-3 inch rise or so). But since it cost less than 100 euros per night incl breakfast for the room it was not only practical but offered great value.

Room Tip: room 107 was the disabled room. it was on the first floor overlooking the street but did not suffer...

I stayed here for three nights in April. It was conveniently located minutes from the train station. The hotel staff was friendly and informative. My single room was small yet adequate for myself. Bathroom was modern and very clean. Elevator so I didn't have to carry my luggage up any stairs. Free internet access on main floor mostly. Breakfast was excellent. All the main attractions and museums were within walking distance. A great place for the price and location. Highly recommend.
