Owner description: This is the richest medieval church in Florence, which features frescoes by Giotto, a chapel by Brunelleschi and one of the finest of all early Renaissance tombs.

Visited this (shamefully) as a last minute stop before leaving for the airport. in retrospect It should have been first on the list. It is a beautiful and historic Basilica, more importantly the final resting place of, amongst other, Gallileo, Michelangelo and Machiavelli; I personally find that rather humbling. Florence is a small place, and it doesn't take long to visit, so you should go there.

This was our second visit to the Basilica di Santa Croce. Our memories from our first visit four years previously suggested that another visit was in order. The ornate decorations on the exterior of the basilica are very much in the same style as those of the Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore.
The interior of the basilica is not as ornate as its exterior but there is still plenty to see inside.
Of particular interest to us were the tombs of Michelangelo, Dante and Machiavelli. The cloistered courtyard located at the rear of the basilica was also interesting to see again.
Well worth the admission price!

History, art, reflection. Not to be missed. Not exactly a child's idea of fun. But the historic importance is unmistakable
