If you want a break from pasta and pizza, come here. Great seafood at reasonable prices. Hip, trendy and full of energy but young and old, locals and tourists alike come here. You will have to queue but are given free glasses of Prosecco while you wait! Everything is good but the salmon and grilled fish merit special mentions. If the proprietors are reading this I would add lobster and battered cod English style to the menu as well. The chips are crispy and tasty.

After staying in Florence for over 2 months, we finally had the opportunity to walk the 5 mins from our home to try Fishing Lab.

As Australians, we love our fresh (raw/crudo) seafood and we were not disappointed. We shared an entree of fried scampi, squid, calamari and prawns with the lightest, most delicate batter which was exceptional.

I had the raw salmon, tuna and oysters and my friend had the cooked salmon which was served with the most amazing Asian dipping sauce.

The service was attentive and much like a hatted restaurant in Sydney (I accidentally dropped my fork and before I could pick it up, a waiter was there, picked it up and new fork presented in a moment).

Really appreciated the whole experience (and as others have said, the interior excavation is beautiful)

Thanks Fishing Lab for a great seafood experience. We'll be back.

We love seafood and were excited to dine here after having mostly meat and pasta while touring Tuscany and Florence. We reserved ahead of time, as this place is very popular not just with tourists but also with young locals. It's bustling, casual, hip, and lively, and reminds me of places you'd find back home in SoHo or Brooklyn.

The ambiance is very unique. The decor is sleek and modern, yet the ceilings are covered in real frescoes from the 1400s, while the lower level features excavated archaeological ruins from the first century AD. The menu is heavy on "street food," and we had the frito misto; rockfish nuggets; fried sardines; octopus stuffed with Romano; sea bass; seafood risotto; and berry and apricot sorbets.

The main drawback of this restaurant is the immature, poor service. The staff is quite young, and while some seemed on the ball, we had the misfortune of having a very rude waitress who couldn't hide her disdain for us. The simplest questions were met with eye rolls and sarcastic comments. If we hadn't been so hungry, we would have walked out, but we wanted to remain pleasant for the sake of our kids. I don't know if her bad attitude stemmed from racism or xenophobia, but we would not return here nor recommend this place to anyone.

Nice concept. Great oysters and inexpensive wine. Popped here before going somewhere else and wished we'd stayed
